Towson Grabs 21-Point Victory Over Saint Joseph's

PHILADELPHIA – The Towson University women's basketball team earned its second straight win on Monday night, 73-52 over Saint Joseph's on the road.

The Tigers were led by redshirt sophomore Kionna Jeter who scored 19 points, while Nukiya Mayo and Danielle Durjan dropped 16 each. Towson improves to 5-4 on the season while the Hawks fall to 3-7.

How it Happened
  • The Tigers started with a quick 4-0 lead, followed by a response from the home team as they took a 5-4 lead four minutes in.
  • Towson ended the first period trailing 19-15, led by Nukiya Mayo with six points.
  • Entering the second quarter the road team fought the entire 10 minutes to regain the lead, finally breaking through with just over four minutes to go.
  • A jumper from Kionna Jeter took a one-point advantage and the Tigers rolled from there, ending the half leading 39-36.
  • At halftime Danielle Durjan was leading the offense with 14 points as she came off the bench, with nine points from Jeter.
  • Entering the third period Towson took a quick 4-0 run and extended the lead to 43-36 forcing a timeout from the Hawks with 7:16 to go, leading to almost three minutes with zero points. The silence was ended by Q. Murray with an and-one play, taking a 46-36 lead with four minutes left in the period.
  • The road team would end up holding Saint Joseph's to just eight points in the third quarter, ending with a six-point advantage with the final 10 minutes in view.
  • At the end of the third period Durjan was still the leading scorer of the game for Towson with 16 points, but in the last quarter her teammates would catch fire to seal the win.
  • Both teams were again silent at the rim, this time for the opening minute and five seconds. Jeter took advantage of a steal and put in a layup, grabbing the and-one and taking a nine point lead.
  • The back-and-forth possessions continued, with Towson scoring on more occasions to end up with a game-high 22 point lead with just 1:16 to go.
