Football Welcomes in 10 on Early Signing Day

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University football team is excited to introduce 10 players that are part of the 2019 Early Period Signing Day Class.
 
"I'm so pleased with the new additions to our family," said Towson head coach Rob Ambrose. "Our staff has worked diligently to find quality young men who will represent our university exceptionally on and off the field.  Welcome to the family men."
 
These 10 will look to help a Towson team that was ranked in the top-20 nationally for eight consecutive weeks, making the FCS playoffs with seven victories and tying for third place in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). 
 
The 10 signees come from primarily up and down the East Coast, representing five different states: Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

Marcus Bowman – Defensive Line – 6-2, 260 – ASA College – Upper Marlboro, Md.
Bowman comes from ASA College, where he was selected as All-Northeast Football Conference Second Team Defensive End in 2018.  This past season, Bowman played in seven games for ASA, earning five tackles for loss, 13 total tackles and a forced fumble.  Prior to ASA, Bowman played at Frederick Douglass High, helping the team to the 2014-15 MPSSA state title.

Stanley Davis – Defensive Back – 6-0, 180 – Louisburg College – Petersburg, Va.
Davis will suit up for Towson after two years at Louisburg College, playing in 13 games for the Hurricanes.  In 2018 at defensive back, Davis had 17 tackles in nine games, broke up seven passes plus had an interception.  While at Petersburg High, Davis was a first team all-conference and all-district honoree as a quarterback.
 
Marcellus Gaines – Linebacker – 6-1, 210 – Cass Tech – Farmington Hills, Mich.
Gaines will be the first Towson player with a hometown in Michigan under head coach Rob Ambrose.  A Detroit Free Press All-City team player in 2018, Gaines finished the 2018 season with 82 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, two sacks and an interception with Cass Tech.  He served primarily as a linebacker but also played running back.
 
Khalil Gary – Defensive Line – 6-3, 310 – Dr. Henry Wise – Upper Marlboro, Md.
An Upper Marlboro native, like current Tiger Andrew Garnett, Gary earned a Fall 2018 All-Metro honorable mention selection by the Washington Post, helping his team win 10 games and reach the Maryland state semifinals as a senior with 57 tackles, including 43 unassisted.
 
Jean Germain – Offensive Line – 6-5, 340 – Paint Branch – Burtonsville, Md.
The Paint Branch product earned Washington Post First Team All-Metro honors as an offensive lineman, helping the Panthers to a 12-1 regular season and an appearance in the 4A regional final.  Germain is also a member of his school track team where he throws shot put.
 
Jesus Gibbs – Defensive Line – 6-4, 275 –University of South Carolina – Dumfries, Va.
A three-star recruit by ESPN.com in the high school Class of 2018, Gibbs was the 10th-ranked recruit from the state of Virginia.  A former Free Lance-Star All-Region 5D and All-USA Virginia player from Potomac, Gibbs spent the 2018 season at the University of South Carolina and will have four years of eligibility at for the Tigers. 
 
Brock Irvin – Linebacker – 6-1, 200 – Hollidaysburg Area – Hollidaysburg, Pa.
A starting linebacker and wide receiver at Hollidaysburg Area, Irvin arrives at Towson from central Pennsylvania.  He was a member of the 2018 WesternPAFootball.net All-Academic Team, leading his high school to a pair of state semifinal berths and three district titles with 101 tackles and a school record 21 sacks.  Irvin will be following in the footsteps of his father, Doug, who also played football at Towson from 1989-1992.
 
Derrick McCoy – Linebacker – 6-3, 235 – Bridgeton – Bridgeton, N.J.
McCoy was selected a Press of Atlantic City All-Star, a member of the Vineland All-Daily Journal team and a West Jersey Football League division all-star.  The NJ Advance Media describes Derrick as "one of the most underrated players in New Jersey".  At Bridgeton, McCoy is a two-sport athlete, also competing in track and field.
 
Charles Murphy, Jr. – Wide Receiver – 6-2, 180 – Montclair – Montclair, N.J.
Murphy, from Montclair High in New Jersey, is ranked as a two-star recruit by Rivals.com.  As a quarterback his senior year, he led his team to a 2018 sectional final with 937 passing yards and 10 touchdowns to earn a spot on the First Team Super Football All-Conference.  As a junior, he had 29 catches for 12 touchdowns as a wide receiver en route to a 12-0 season.
 
Ricky Santiago – Offensive Line – 6-5, 330 – Coatesville – Sadsburyville, Pa.
The Philadelphia Enquirer called Santiago, an offensive lineman from Coatesville High, one of the top high school players in southeastern Pennsylvania in the class of 2019.  He led his team to the 2018 6A state final, blocking for an offense that averaged over 41 points per game en route to a 15-1 season.  During his time at Coatesville, he also competes on the track team where he throws shot put.
