Towson Set to Host Delaware In 80th Meeting

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University men's basketball team continues its home stand by hosting Delaware. This will be the 80th meeting between the longtime rivals.

Last Time Out For Towson
Zane Martin and Mike Morsell continued their double-digit scoring streaks during Towson's 77-62 setback to visiting Northeastern in a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at SECU Arena. In reaching double figures for the 21st consecutive game, Martin scored 21 points to lead the Tigers. It was also the 16th time this season Martin has hit for at least 20 points. Morsell added 17 points for his ninth straight double-digit performance. In addition to blocking a pair of shots, Morsell raised his career scoring total to 1,458 points. Justin Gorham grabbed eight rebounds for Towson, which lost its second straight home game. This was the fourth time in the Tigers' last five games that he led the team in rebounding. Eddie Keith II, who is fifth in the conference in blocked shots, finished with two rejections.
 
A Look At Delaware
Freshman guard Ryan Allen earned his fourth CAA Rookie of the Week award and his second in as many weeks. led the Blue Hens in scoring during both games on the week, averaging 22.0 points. He has led the team in scoring in seven of the last eight games, including four in a row. Allen scored 19 points on Thursday vs. Northeastern and added 25 on Saturday at William & Mary. Skye Johnson notched his first double-double with career-highs of 17 points and 10 rebounds against the Tribe. Eric Carter chipped in with 12 points and eight boards for Delaware, which shot 42.1 percent and held a 40-27 rebounding advantage. UD has lost eight straight games.
 
Last Meeting Against Delaware
Justin Gorham recorded his second double-double of the season with 21 points and 12 rebounds to help Towson edge Delaware, 75-71, at the Bob Carpenter Center on Thursday, Feb. 1. His final basket with 21 seconds remaining gave the Tigers the lead for good, 69-68. Mike Morsell finished with 18 points and forced a huge Delaware turnover with 10 seconds remaining with the Tigers leading by one point. Zane Martin scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half. He complemented his effort with seven rebounds and six assists. Towson's defense was under siege the entire night from Delaware's guard tandem of Ryan Allen (22 points) and Anthony Mosley (21).
 
SECU Success
Towson is 54-20 all-time at SECU Arena. Over the last three years, the Tigers are 31-10. Towson is 8-3 at SECU this season. Six of its eight wins have been by double digits. 
 
Working Overtime
Towson is 3-1 in overtime this season, beating Morgan State, 82-78, on Dec. 6, William & Mary, 96-82, on Jan. 25 and Drexel, 94-92 on Feb. 8. The Tigers fell to UNCW, 73-71 on Jan. 20.  The game against Drexel on Feb. 2, 2017 was Towson's first double overtime game since it beat William & Mary at home, 99-86, on Jan. 9, 2013. 
 
Marvelous Martin
Towson University sophomore Zane Martin was named to the Lou Henson Award Mid-Season Watch List. Martin leads Towson in scoring with a 20.0 point per game average, which is second in the conference. He's had 16 20-point outings and has hit double figures in 21 consecutive games. Martin scored a career best and SECU Arena record-tying 35 points in a 96-82 overtime win over William & Mary on Jan. 25. Nationally, Martin is 20th in field goals made (185), 22nd in total points (519) and field goal attempts (389) and 44th in points per game (20.0).
 
Morsell Climbing the Charts
In addition to his 1,458 points, Mike Morsell is tied for fourth with Kurk Lee in 3-pointers made (143). Next to pass is Raul dePablo (145). He is third in 3-pointers attempted (430). Next in his sights is Gary Neal (431). He's fifth in free throws made (325). Next up is Kurk Lee (342). Morsell is sixth in free throws attempted (441). Next to pass is Robert Nwankwo (458). He's fifth in games started (98). With three more starts, he'll become the fifth player in prorgam history to start 100 games. He is fifth in minutes played (3,235). Next up for him to pass in minutes is Devin Boyd (3,471).

Comeback Tigers
Towson has rallied six five double-digit deficits to win games this season. Towson overcame a 19-9 deficit to beat Penn (79-71) and a 23-10 deficit to beat Manhattan (56-55). The Tigers erased a 33-19 deficit to beat William & Mary (99-73) and a 47-37 deficit to beat William & Mary (96-82). Towson overcame an early 16-6 hole to beat Delaware (75-71). The Tigers came back from a 67-49 deficit with 11:11 remaining to beat Drexel, 94-92, in overtime.
 
Nationally Speaking
Currently with a RPI of 122, Towson is ranked among the top 50 in five categories: 24th in total rebounds (1,031),  37th in rebounding margin (5.5), 39th in offensive rebounds per game (12.3), 42nd in total blocks (119), and 50th in blocks per game (4.4).
