Coleman Sets New Shot Put Record at Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - For the second time this season, Towson University women's track and field junior Lauren Coleman set a new school record in the shot put, highlighting the Tigers' performance at the Penn State Tune-Up on Saturday at Ashenfelter III Indoor Track.

Coleman, who broke her own record at the Navy Lid Lifter earlier this year at 51-3, totaled a mark of 51-9.75 to take first place over junior Phontavia Sawyer who had a throw of 48-8.25. The Tigers placed four student-athletes in the top six as senior Ksenia Safonova was fourth at 40-11.75 and freshman Jessica Manuel was sixth at 34-7.

In the weight throw, junior Taylor Giles led a 1-2-3 Towson finish with a throw of 56-6. Coleman was second at 53-3.75 and Safonova was third at 54-4.5.

Sophomore Victoria Jones-Alleyne was one of four Tigers who qualified for the finals of the 60-meter hurdles as she won her heat with a time of 8.73 seconds while sophomore Helnsarah Penda won her heat in a time of 8.78 seconds. Sophomore Britney Nguetta was fifth while junior Naja McAdam was sixth.

Alleyne and Penda finished 1-2 in the finals while Nguetta and McAdam were fifth and sixth.

Juniors Jaina McLean and Rachel Laryea both qualified for the finals of the 60-meter dash where McLean finished first in a personal best time of 7.76 seconds while Laryea came in seventh.

In the 800 meters, senior Amanda Famularo led a 1-2-3-4 finish for the Tigers, crossing the line in a time of 2:18.20. Junior Shelby Bobbie was second, junior Tiffany Woods was third and sophomore Melissa Graham was fourth.

Freshman Paige Keefer won the 600 meters in 1:35.85.

In the 4x400 meter relay, Famularo, sophomore T'Reyah Johnson, freshman Ivonna Hoskins and junior Liz Reid took first with a time of 3:55.28.

Reid finished second in the 200 meters with a personal best time of 24.76 seconds, just 0.03 behind West Virginia's McKenna Smith in first.

Senior Emily Johnson finished second in the 3,000 meters, also a personal best, with a time of 10:00.73. Sophomore Nicki Iacaruso was third.

Freshman Charlotte Bader finished third in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:28.78. while junior Zellie Charles was third in the long jump at 17-9. Jones-Alleyne was fourth at 17-6.

Freshman Alina Nagornyuk was fourth in the pole vault at 10-1.5.

McAdam and freshman Briana Gamble finished fourth and fifth in the high jump, respectively.

In the 400 meters, Johnson led four Tigers in the top-8 with a time of 59.30 seconds to finish fifth.

Towson returns to action next Saturday, February 24 at the Fasttrack Last Chance Invitational in Staten Island, New York.
