Tigers Head to Pittsburgh for Quad Meet with N.C. State, Temple

TOWSON, Md. - The Towson University women's gymnastics team travels to Pittsburgh on Saturday for a quad meet with the Panthers, N.C. State and Temple beginning at 2 p.m., inside Fitzgerald Field House.

The Tigers are ranked 42nd in the nation with an average team score of 194.200. They are tied for 25th in the nation on beam (48.744), 40th on both floor (48.769) and bars (48.519), while ranking 56th on vault (48.169).

Senior Tyra McKellar leads the team on vault with an average score of 9.775 while also leading the team on bars (9.812) and floor (9.775). She also has the team's highest all-around average and is ranked 47th nationally at 39.056.

Senior Gabriella Yarussi has been the team's top performer on beam with an average of 9.800.

Despite posting the highest scores on bars and beam, margins of 0.125 and 0.325 separated Towson from first place over the final two rotations in a quad meet with North Carolina, Yale and Ursinus last Friday at SECU Arena. The Tar Heels finished with 194.600 points, just 0.325 ahead of the second-place Tigers while Yale (192.050) and Ursinus (187.425) finished third and fourth, respectively.

Freshmen Kyla Gamble and Tess Zientek each posted career highs on bars while junior Mary Elle Arduino and sophomore Melissa Temkov both had career highs on floor.

Pitt placed fourth with a 193.125 in its quad meet against Michigan State, Eastern Michigan and Rutgers last Saturday. The Panthers rank 38th in the nation with an average team score of 194.492 through three meets. Pitt ranks 19th on bars with a 48.892, is tied for 34th on floor with a 48.858, ranks 41st on vault with a 48.708 and ranks 50th on beam with a 48.033.

N.C. State placed fourth in a quad meet against No. 2 LSU, No. 4 UCLA and No. 14 Washington last Saturday. The Wolfpack rank 26th in the nation on floor (48.975), 28th on bars (48.725) and 29th on both vault (48.831) and beam (48.681).

Temple placed first in a quad meet against Southeast Missouri State, Cornell and Ithaca last Sunday. The Owls rank 42nd in the nation on floor (48.738), 44th on bars (48.419), 51st on vault (48.381) and are tied for 53rd on beam (47.975).
