TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team controlled the first half of the game, but it was Ohio University who controlled the back half as the Bobcats rallied for a 9-8 victory Sunday afternoon at Schuerholz Park.
How it Happened
- The Tigers (2-11) came out of the gates quickly as Andrew Cassard walked to start the game and Richie Palacios followed with a single up the middle.
- Mark Grunberg plated one run with a single through the right side and Billy Lennox followed with a sacrifice fly.
- Grunberg would score the third run of the inning when he hustled home from third on a wild pitch.
- Towson added to its lead in the second after Dirk Masters started a two-out rally with a single to right field. After a walk, Palacios drove in Masters with a double off the fence in right field.
- Lennox drove in his second run of the game with a base hit through the right side and Richard Miller followed with a two-run single that eluded the shortstop.
- Michael Adams kept the Bobcats off the board through the first five innings. After allowing two hits in the first inning, Adams did not allow another hit until a one-out single in the fifth. He quickly ereased that with a strikeout and a pop up.
- Adams finally surrendered a run on a solo home run in the sixth and departed after allowing another hit in the frame. His day concluded with five hits allowed and six strikeouts over 5.1 innings.
- Ohio (9-8) got to the Tigers bullpen in the sixth as a Rudy Rott three-run home run capped a five-run frame.
- Towson got one of the runs back in the home-half of the inning without the benefit of a hit. Palacios drew a leadoff walk and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and a passed ball.
- The Bobcats would come all the way back to tie the game with three runs in the eighth inning, then score the winning run in the top of the ninth on a sacrifice fly from Aaron Levy.
- Joe Enea (0-1) suffered the loss for the Tigers after allowing seven runs on five hits over 2.2 innings.
- Eddie Kutt (1-0) picked up the victory as the seventh pitcher of the day for the Bobcats. He did not allow a hit, and struck out three, over four shutout innings.
- Palacios led the offense by going 3-for-4 with a walk and three runs scored. Before being retired in his last at-bat, Palacios had reached safely in seven-straight plate appearances dating back to yesterday's game.
- Miller followed up his big day yesterday by going 1-for-2 with a pair of RBIs.
