Football Alumni Giving Back to the Community

TOWSON, Md. – Several former Towson University football players gave back to the Greater Towson area community during their annual Alumni Weekend.

"It's awesome to see these guys from different decades get together and catch up," said Towson University head football coach Rob Ambrose. "It is kind of like a high school reunion, but so much cooler. Now that we have added a community service aspect, this is something that warms my heart. It made a great weekend even better."

Led by Miami Dolphins' offensive lineman Jermon Bushrod, the group of former Tigers participated in a pair of community service activities.

Upon arrival Friday evening, the group packed 150 lunches that were delivered to the Weinberg Center.

The group spent Saturday afternoon at the Langston Hughes Community Business & Resource Center. The theme for the visit is "Why Education is Important."  The group spent time playing games and provided pizza for everybody in attendance.

"This is a pivotal year for this function. Wear going on our 11th year and a group of us thought it would be cool to add another event to get the guys back to Towson," said Bushrod. "Over the years we have been in a couple different places and hanging out. It was more of just coming together to have a good time.

"We wanted to find another way for this weekend to have meaning and it is something we can look forward to every single year. We are able to have more people involved now and I think it is important as Towson football alumni that we encourage the guys who just finished playing to come back and meet some of the guys and network."
