- Towson took advantage of a two-out error in the second to push across six more runs to push the advantage to 10 after two innings.
How it Happened
- Richie Palacios singled through the right side to put runners on the corners with nobody out.
- Palacios then stole second, and when the throw went into center, Craig Alleyne was able to score from third.
- Mark Grunberg would plate the second run of the inning with a fielder's choice and Richard Miller doubled to left center to make it a 3-0 game.
- After the play, UNCW attempted to appeal that Miller missed first, but the pitcher threw the ball away and Miller hustled around to score.
- The second inning start harmlessly for the Tigers as the first two hitters were retired.
- That is when things unraveled for UNCW as a walk was followed by a fielding error.
- Gimblet drove in both runners with a double down the left-field line and then scored when Billy Lennox singled to left center.
- A walk and a hit batter loaded the bases for Logan Burke to clear them with an opposite-field double off the base of the wall in right.
- Burke helped add to the lead in the sixth with a double into the corner in left before scoring on a Cassard bloop single that fell just inside the right-field line.
- UNCW finally got on the board in the bottom of the seventh as two Towson errors helped push across three runs.
- Towson got the runs right back in the next inning with the help of the speed of Palacios. The junior drew a leadoff walk and then went to work.
- He stole second and popped up quickly to take third when the ball went into center field. He then noticed that UNCW was taking its time to get the ball back in and hustled his way in to score.
- Lennox collected his fourth hit of the game with a RBI double to left and then scored on a Miller single to right center.
- The early offense was more than enough for starter David Marriggi (3-4) who cruised through the early part of the game. He allowed just two hits through the first six innings before running into some trouble in the seventh.
- He finished the day by allowing three runs, one earned, on six hits over seven innings.
- Landen Roupp (0-2) took the loss after he allowed eight runs, all unearned, on five hits over 1.2 innings.
