Pair of Seniors Homer in First Game of Doubleheader

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team got home runs from seniors Charlie Watters and Colin Gimblet in falling, 12-3, to James Madison in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon.

Key Plays
  • After a check swing was ruled a no swing in the first inning, the proceeding pitch was hit into right center for a RBI single for JMU. The Dukes would go on to score two runs in the inning.
 
How it Happened
  • The Dukes got a pair of runs in the first inning on a Zach Tondi single. Tondi moved to third on a two-base error and scored on a passed ball.
  • JMU added three runs in the second inning on a groundout and a two-run double from Tondi.
  • Towson got a run back in the third as Charlie Watters led off the inning with a solo home to left field, his third of the season.
  • Base hits from Fox Semones and Ryan Coale pushed across runs for JMU in the fourth.
  • The Tigers got two more runs in the fifth inning after Billy Lennox singled to left center and Colin Gimblet followed with a two-run shot to left field.
  • Alex Cuas (1-6) took the loss after allowing five runs, four earned, on three hits and three strikeouts over 1.2 innings.
  • Kevin Kelly (3-3) allowed three runs on six hits and six strikeouts to pick up the victory.

  • Charlie Watters hit his third home run of the season in the third inning. It was his first at home.
  • Colin Gimblet hit his first home run of the season with a no-doubt shot to left field.
  • Gimblet finished the game 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.
  • Richie Palacios drew a walk in his final at bat for his 49th walk of the season.
  • Richard Miller came off the bench to go 2-for-2 with a double.
