BALTIMORE, Md. - Led by two first-place finishes by junior
Zach Bishop, several members of the Towson University men's swimming team posted strong performances at the Long Course Championships hosted by the North Baltimore Aquatic Club (NBAC) June 8-11.
"The men had tons of very high places and swam very well compared to where we were at this time last year," said head coach
Jake Shrum. "To have this many men competing at this high of a level so early in the summer speaks volumes about their commitment."
Bishop finished first in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:00.81 and first in the 200-meter backstroke in a time of 2:12.24. Bishop claimed two of three first-place finishes for the Tigers as sophomore
Matt Essing came in first in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 24.30 seconds. Essing also finished third in the 100-meter freestyle in 54.18 seconds.
How It Happened
- Junior Evan Brophy finished second in the 400-meter freestyle (4:08.94).
- Sophomore Ryan O'Leary was second in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:07.31) and second in the 200-meter breaststroke (2:30.85).
- Junior Aaron Magazine came in second in the 1,500-meter freestyle (16:42.30), third in the 800-meter freestyle (8:46.62), fourth in the 200-meter freestyle (1:58.49) and fifth in 400-meter freestyle (4:14.73).
- Freshman Nick McClure placed third in the 200-meter butterfly (2:08.80).
- Junior Ben Johnston was fourth in the 100 breast (1:08.49) and fourth in the 200-meter individual medley (2:15.19).
- Junior Andrew Snyder finished fifth in the 400-meter individual medley (4:48.77).
In addition, junior
Jack Saunderson posted the fifth-fastest time by an American this year in the 100-meter butterfly, breaking his own school record with a time a time of 52.66 seconds which is currently ranked 53rd in the world. He also finished first in the 200 fly with a time of 2:00.61 and first in the 100 free with a time of 52.57 seconds.
