Towson, Kelly & Coleman Earn All-USTFCCCA Academic Honors

TOWSON, Md. – Thrower Lauren Coleman and hurdler Megan Kelly of the Towson University women's track and field were named as United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Individuals. It was announced by the coaches association.
 
In addition, the Tigers, who finished third at the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) championships, were recognized for their strong academics by the USTFCCCA with All-Academic Team honors.
 
To be selected as a USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree, a student-athlete must have posted a 3.25 cumulative GPA or better. For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list, provided by TFRRS.org.
 
For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships, including preliminary rounds. Team awards are given to those programs that have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher.
 
This is the second consecutive year that Coleman was named a USTFCCCA All-Academic. This past season, Coleman won the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) and Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) championship for the second straight season. She set a program record in the shot put with a toss of 52-4.5 at the ECAC championships on May 12.
 
The Bowie, Maryland native was 44th in the shot put at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Championship. Her toss in the preliminary meet went 14.36m (47'1.5").
 
Kelly enjoyed a strong senior season as she competed in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Championship in the 400-meter hurdles where she ran 59.67. She was a CAA champion in the 400-meter hurdles (59.30). She was third in the 400-meter hurdles at the ECAC Championships (1:00.21) and a member of the 4 x 400 team that was fourth (3:44.45).
 
In addition to winning the 400-meter hurdles at the CAA Championships, she was fourth in the 400 (55.19) and a member of the 4 x 400 team that was third (3:43.91). Kelly won the 400-meter hurdles at the JMU Invitational (59.05) and Towson Invitational (1:00.46).
 
Overall, 220 women's programs were honored for their academics by the USTFCCCA and 874 women earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors.
