TOWSON, Md. – Several former Towson University men's basketball standouts have enjoyed successful and solid professional playing careers.
Since
Pat Skerry became the head coach in 2011, former Tigers William Adala-Moto, Jerelle Benimon, Mike Burwell, Marcus Damas,
John Davis, Bilal Dixon,
Alex Gavrilovic,
Four McGlynn,
Mike Morsell and
Timajh Parker-Rivera have played professionally after accomplished careers for Towson.
They each played a significant role in helping the Tigers enjoy a consistent stretch of excellence.
Here's a brief update.
Adala-Moto: Played for CB Clavijo in Spain and averaged 8.6 points and 4.8 rebounds. He had 10 games in which he reached double figures. His season best was 19 points against Sammic ISB. He also competed for his native Cameroon in the Africa World Cup.
Benimon: He most recently played for Ratiopham in Germany where he averaged 7.3 points and 5.2 rebounds. Prior, Benimon played for Qingdao of China in the CBA (2016-17), averaging 19 points, 11 rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks per game. The season prior, he played with Guangzhou Long-Lions of China in the CBA (2015-16), averaging 25 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block per game. He has appeared in two NBA games with the Utah Jazz and spent a season with the Idaho Stampede (2014-15). One of the games Benimon played in for the Jazz was an 87-82 win over the New York Knicks. He had three rebounds in that game. While playing for Idaho, he was a first-team All-Rookie and first-team All D-League selection, in addition to an NBA D-League Showcase Honorable Mention Team honoree.
Burwell: He played for Towson in 2012-13 and 2013-14. Following his Tiger career, he played for BK Jekabpils (Lativa) and Barsy Atyrau (Kazakhstan). He averaged 14.4 points and 6.2 rebounds for BK Jekabpils in 2014-15. A year later, he averaged 16.8 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.3 steals. He is retired.
Damas: Played for Solna (Sweden) in 2014-15. He averaged 10.2 points and 5.5 rebounds.
Davis: He is currently playing with the Luina Geelong Supercats, a
South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL) club based in
Geelong, Victoria.
Dixon: Played for three teams over a two-year period. Dixon played for Abejas in the Mexican LNBP. The team was based in Guanajuato, Mexico. He also played for the Island Storm, members of the Canadian NBL located in Charlottetown, Canada, largest city of the province of Prince Edward Island. He is retired.
Gavrilovic: Is in his third year of playing in France. After two seasons playing for Chorale Roanne where he averaged 7.1 points and 4.2 rebounds in 66 games, he was a member of the ALM Evreux this past season. He averaged 7.6 points per game on 53.0 percent shooting.
McGlynn: Playing in Portugal for SC Lusitana, he averaged 23.9 points and 3.1 assists in 11 games. He also made 33 3-pointers.
Morsell: Recently signed a contract to play professionally for Kobrat Lapua, a team located in Finland. He'll be the second Tiger to play in the Korisliiga League. Former All-American guard Kurk Lee (1988-90) was league MVP in 1996-97 when he played for Torpan Pojat.
Parker-Rivera: He's played for SSV Iok Bernau in Germany and SC Lusitana in Portugal. In 2016-17, he averaged 7.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. He enjoyed a breakout year in 2017-18 averaging 13.7 points, 11.6 rebounds and 1.2 blocked shots while shooting 64.3 percent.
