BALTIMORE – Towson University men's basketball will have two former players, Terry Nolan Jr. ('22), Marty Johnson ('88), and a former assistant coach, Jack Degele, inducted into the Baltimore Catholic League (BCL) Hall of Fame on June 18.
Johnson still features prominently in the Towson men's basketball record books. His 1987-88 season is one of the greatest in Towson history. He served as team captain and set the single game record for steals with 11 vs. Bucknell and the single season record with 124 steals during the 1987-88 campaign. Johnson posted 151 assists during the season, one shy of the single season record. During the 1987-88 season he led the Tigers in points, points per game, field goals attempted, field goals made, field goal percentage, free throws attempted, free throws made, assists, steals and blocks. He was named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Defensive Player of the Year, All-ECC second team and All-ECC tournament team.
Nolan Jr. came to Towson for one season. He was on the 2021-22 team that earned the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) regular season championship and a berth in the NIT. During the season, he surpassed 1,000 career points and 300 career assists. Nolan Jr. was 23rd in DI and best in the CAA in assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.59. He put up 10 assists against No. 21 Ohio State while also not turning the ball over once.
Degele was an assistant for Towson men's basketball for the 1974-75 season. The team went 14-12 and 7-7 in the Mason Dixon Conference.
Johnson played his high school basketball at Cardinal Gibbons from 1979-83 and Nolan Jr. played at Our Lady of Mount Caramel High School from 2013-17. Degele was the commissioner for the BCL for 25 years.
