The Tigers rallied from down 2-1 to take the match 3-2, thanks to a dominant performance in the deciding set. Towson hit for .263 in the match, including a healthy .562 in the fifth set. The Tigers went 2-1 at the Invitational, topping La Salle 3-1 but falling to Ball State in straight sets.
Â
Home Sweet Home.
Seriously. Home Sweet Home,
For Real Though. We're Still Home.
This week's matches will run Towson's run of home contests to a 10 in a row, dating back to the Sept. 6 start to the Towson Invitational. This week, Towson will play consecutive home matches eight (Delaware), nine (Northeastern) and 10 (Hofstra). It's just the third time in the program's Division I Era (1979) the Tigers will play 10-straight home matches, joining the 1982 and 1984 squads.
Â
The Series: Delaware (6-6 Overall) (Towson leads 42-40)
Seemingly forever conference rivals, the Tigers and Blue Hens will meet on the volleyball court for the 83rd time this Friday night. With the series tied at 40-40 entering last season, the Tigers swept the Blue Hens 3-1 and 3-0 to wrest control of the series away from Delaware. The Tigers won the last meeting 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-17) at SECU Arena.
Â
The Series: Northeastern (7-6 Overall) (Northeastern Leads 21-15)
The Tigers and Huskies will meet for the 37th time in a series that Northeastern leads 21-15. The foes split matches last season, with the road team collecting the win in both meetings to bookend the month of October. The Tigers won the second showdown in Boston with a 3-1 decision (30-28, 25-21, 20-25, 25-23).
Â
The Series: Hofstra (10-4 Overall) (Hofstra Leads 44-16)
Long-time conference foes, Towson and Hofstra will meet for the 61st time Monday night. The Pride control the series at 44-16. The two teams split last season's matches, with the visitor taking the victory in either contest. Towson won the second meeting in straight sets (25-23, 26-24, 25-18) on the road on Oct. 27 as the Tigers collected their 22nd win of the 2017 season.
Â
Career Record Holder Anna Holehouse
Last weekend in the first set of the Tigers' 3-1 win over La Salle, Anna Holehouse became the program's all-time digs leader, racking up her 1,870th dig just 11 matches into her redshirt senior season. Holehouse stands alone at the top of the program's list, surpassing Paige Sekerak's mark of 1,869. Holehouse now has 1,946 career digs and will look to become the first player in program history to surpass the 2,000 digs mark. Should she hit that mark, she will become the seventh player in CAA history to hit the milestone.
Â
Sixth Season for Metil
Head coach Don Metil is now in his sixth season at the helm of the Towson volleyball program. With the Tigers, he is 119-59 overall, a winning percentage of .669. In 17 seasons as a head coach, Metil has amassed a record of 349-188 (.650). Metil and the Tigers will look to surpass the 20-win mark for a fifth-straight season this year.
Â
Kuilan's Big Swing
Senior Jocelyn Kuilan is firmly one of the top offensive players in program history. The right sider has knocked down 1,297 kills in her career at Towson, ranking sixth all-time and is poised to become the sixth player in program history with at least 1,300 kills. She needs 54 more kills to surpass Maddie Haseltine (2005-08). April Hoffman (2002-05) leads the career records with 1,588 kills. Kuilan averages 391 kills per season, including a rookie season with 426. Kuilan will need 320 kills to take the program's career record. Kuilan continues to climb in the program's all-time sets played list. She has seen time in 415 sets, ranking among the top 20. The program's all-time mark is 481 sets played by Lindsey Flaherty (2013-16).
