Towson Rolls to 4-0 in CAA Action

TOWSON, Md. – A snowy Sunday afternoon gave way to an important win for the Towson University women's basketball team. The Tigers hosted their second Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) game of the year and defeated Hofstra 92-68.

Towson was led by redshirt sophomore Kionna Jeter who had 29 points, while two other Tigers scored double figures. Junior Nukiya Mayo recorded her second double-double of the year with 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Q. Murray dropped 14 and dished out seven assists. Senior Maia Lee had a career-high 14 rebounds to pace the team.

How it Happened
  • The home team led for 38 minutes and 27 seconds, with 1:25 of game time tied, but zero minutes with a Pride lead.
  • In the opening minute action was quiet, before Kionna Jeter drained a three, and the Tigers didn't stop. Towson rolled out to an 11-0 lead, all points coming from Jeter, four minutes into the game.
  • Hofstra took a quick timeout and adjusted the defense, but the difference did not stop the home team who took a 24-8 lead into the end of the first quarter.
  • The second period saw more scoring from the Pride, as the road team outscored Towson 29-19. Even with the additional points the Tigers remained ahead, going into the locker room at halftime with a 43-37 lead.
  • Entering the third quarter, Maia Lee scored the first Towson points with a layup to extend the lead to eight points, but Hofstra's Marianne Kalin would respond 20 seconds later and cut the lead to six.
  • The six-point advantage was the smallest lead the Tigers had all day, and Kalin's bucket from the other end of the court changed momentum for the Pride. On the next possession Q. Murray hit a three, pushing the lead to nine, and Hofstra missed its next two straight shots.
  • Towson went on an 11-0 run in the following three minutes to take a 22-point lead. A 20-point deficit was as close as the Pride would come to closing the gap, as the home team continued to score.

  • Sunday's performance from Kionna Jeter was her season-high in steals with seven. The Spartanburg, South Carolina native also has scored 20 or more points in the last four straight games.
