Men’s Lacrosse Selected Second in IL CAA Poll

BALTIMORE - With less than a month until the 2019 season gets underway, Inside Lacrosse has announced its annual media poll for the predicted order of finish in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA).

The Tigers, who have reached the CAA Championship game in each of the last four seasons, were selected to finish second this season. Reigning league champion UMass was voted first. Hofstra and Delaware were voted third and fourth, respectively, to round out the potential CAA Tournament field. Drexel was voted fifth while Fairfield was selected sixth.

Additionally, the Tigers had five players named to publication's Preseason All-CAA Team: Grant Maloof (midfield), Alex Woodall (faceoff), Zach Goodrich (short stick defensive midfield), Koby Smith (defense/long stick midfield) and Chad Patterson (defense).

After being named the CAA Defensive Player of the Year in last season's coaches vote and a USILA First Team All-American, Goodrich was selected as Inside Lacrosse's favorite to be the CAA Player of the Year.

Towson had the most preseason selections, according to Inside Lacrosse. UMass had three players named (Jeff Trainor, Isaac Paparo, Sean Sconone) while Delaware had two (Charlie Kitchen, Austin Haynes) as did Drexel (Marshal King, Matt Varlan). Hofstra had one preseason All-CAA selection (Ryan Tierney).

The 2019 CAA Men's Lacrosse Championship will be hosted at the site of the regular season champion. The semifinal round is slated for May 2 while the league's automatic qualifier will be up for grabs on Saturday, May 4 in the 2019 CAA Men's Lacrosse Championship game.

Towson opens the season on Saturday, Feb. 9 with a home game against local rival Johns Hopkins. Game time at Johnny Unitas ® Stadium is slated for noon.
