WILMINGTON, N.C. – A war occurred on the court of Trask Coliseum on Sunday afternoon as the Towson University women's basketball team fell to UNCW 77-73.

Kionna Jeter paced the Tigers with 28 points while junior
Nukiya Mayo dropped 20.
Maia Lee grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds. Towson moves to 11-6 on the season and 5-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA).
Following Sunday's conference games the Tigers are still in first place in the CAA, tied with James Madison.
How it Happened
- Through the first 12 minutes the game was nearly even, with either team leading by three points at most.
- At the 7:22 mark, the Seahawks took a five-point lead which grew to 10 by 5:54.
- UNCW's biggest lead in the first half was 12 points, as Towson fought back to close the gap. In the final 54 seconds the home team led by nine, before Nukiya Mayo drained a three and Kionna Jeter made two free throws to go into the locker room trailing by four.
- In the first half the Tigers were shooting one of their best performances with a 58.6 field goal percentage and 75 percent from three.
- The battled ensued in the second half, spurred by an 8-3 Towson run in the opening minutes of the third.
- Jeter made four baskets with a contribution layup from Maia Lee to put the Tigers ahead by seven with 1:37 to go in the period.
- Towson held the lead until the 4:17 mark in the fourth.
- The Seahawks made five baskets in the final 1:44 while the Tigers had two fall. The late push from the home team took a five-point lead with just 10 seconds to go.
- After a Towson timeout, Mayo scored a layup and cut the lead to three, but UNCW would score once more to seal the win.
Beyond the Box
- Sunday was the Tigers' fourth-straight game shooting over 40 percent from the field, with a 48.4 shooting percentage.
- Nukiya Mayo scored 20 points for the second-straight game, she has scored in double figures the last seven games.
- In four of the last five games, Maia Lee has had double-figure rebounding outings, including her 12 rebounds against UNCW.
- Sunday was Kionna Jeter's best shooting night of the season with a 57.8 field goal percentage. Jeter has scored 20 or more points in the last six games.
- The loss is Towson's first since Dec. 20, 2018 at West Virginia.
