TOWSON, Md. – Friday night extended the home winning-streak to 6-0 following a win over Elon 59-58.
The Tigers improve to 12-6 on the season and 6-1 in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play, still tied for first place in the conference with James Madison.
Towson was led by
Nukiya Mayo with a double-double 15 points and 13 rebounds, while
Ryan Holder posted 13 and
Kionna Jeter scored 10.
How it Happened
- The Tigers opened the game with a 4-0 lead and a battle on the court began. Elon ended the first quarter with a seven-point lead.
- Entering the second quarter the Pheonix took a game-high 11-point lead, which Towson cut to eight with 41 seconds to go before halftime.
- The Tigers came out of the half with some fight, starting with a 10-0 run to tie the game with just under eight minutes to go in the third.
- Towson took the lead for the first time in 17 minutes at the 6:43 mark in the third, holding the lead for the next 10 minutes before the road team tied it up 52-52 with 6:25 to go.
- In the final six minutes the Tigers led by as much as five, before Elon's Lexi Mercer hit a three to cut the lead to two.
- The final three minutes went back and forth as Nukiya Mayo drained a three to extend the lead to 59-56 before Elon cut the lead to one.
- Towson was able to hold off on the final possession and seal the win.
Beyond the Box
- The Tigers are off to their best start since the 2011-12 season and remaining in the top of the conference standings.
- Friday night was the eighth-straight game with at least two players scoring in double figures, dating back to the road game at Marshall on Dec. 22, 2018.
