Field Hockey Opens CAA Play Against Northeastern Friday, Hosts Georgetown Sunday

TOWSON, Md. – This weekend the Towson University field hockey team remains home for a pair of games. Friday afternoon the Tigers open conference play against Northeastern and Sunday they host Georgetown.
 
Both games will be played at the TU Field Hockey Complex and will be streamed through the Towson Sports Network.
 
Scouting the Tigers
Towson is coming off a tough outing against Davidson on Sunday at home. Freshman Samantha Aljets and sophomore Kathryn Parkinson each scored for the Tigers and the pair continue to lead the team offensively with a combined seven goals and six assists. Freshman Georgia Beachley is tied with Aljets in scoring with three goals herself. Rookie Tess Okkerse continues to hold down the fort between the posts with 63 saves.
 
Scouting the Huskies
Through part of the beginning of the season Northeastern was holding onto first place in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) but after opening conference play the Huskies sit in fifth place. Northeastern (6-5, 0-1 CAA) is led by Lauren Rowe with 12 goals and 10 assists, she leads the conference in shots, goals and assists. Julia Gluyas is the Huskies' starting goalie with 55 saves and a .640 save percentage.
 
The Northeastern Series
Friday will be the 22nd meeting between these two teams, the Huskies lead the series 18-3. Northeastern has won each meeting since 2012, the most recent Towson victory came in 2011. Last season the teams met in Boston and the Tigers got two goals in but the home team held on for a 5-2 win. Gretchen Alderfer and Katie McNeel scored for Towson.
 
Scouting the Hoyas
Georgetown enters the weekend 5-7 and will host Temple on Friday before coming to Towson for Sunday's matchup. The Hoyas are led by a trio of players with four goals and one assist each. They are averaging 1.58 goals per game and starting goalkeeper Ciara Weets has 60 saves through 12 games. Georgetown has faced several of the same opponents as Towson, taking wins over Rider, Davidson and La Salle but falling to Lehigh, American and Appalachian State.
 
The Georgetown Series
Sunday will be the 18th meeting between the Tigers and the Hoyas, Georgetown leading 9-8. The Hoyas have won three of the last four meetings. In 2018 the Black and Gold traveled to D.C. and fell 2-1 at Cooper Field. Jenna Florenzo scored for Towson.
 
CAA Play Begins
After Friday's conference opener, the Tigers are in full swing of CAA action. Next week Towson travels to Delaware for a Friday night matchup and the following Friday will travel to Drexel.

Tigers in the Community
The Towson University athletics department deems community service as one of its highest priorities to give back to the Greater Baltimore area. For the seventh consecutive year, the department exceeded 10,000 hours of community service to the Greater Baltimore region, finishing with 11,162 hours of community service in the 2018-19 academic season. Towson ranked No. 1 nationally for community service and won the 2018 National Championship for Community Service through the Helper Helper NCAA Team Works Competition. Towson had a 97% participation rate, attended 118 community service opportunities and volunteered with 19 organizations. Towson won the 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award from Susan G. Komen of Maryland.
