TOWSON, MD. – In the rain and cold on Sunday afternoon, the Towson University women's soccer team fell to Delaware 1-0 in double overtime.
Unlike last year where the game was delayed a day because of the weather, the Tigers (3-12-1, 0-7-0 CAA) battled the elements for 110 minutes but it was the Blue Hens (10-6-0, 5-2-0 CAA) who capitalized in the final minutes of the double overtime to win the game.
How it Happened
- Delaware took two shots both going off target before Madison Carr had a header that was saved by the Blue Hens goalkeeper Kamryn Stablein.
- Lexi Littlefield had a shot for the Tigers at the 15 minute mark but it went wide right.
- Three more Blue Hens took shots in the first half before Christina Davey took a shot that went wide right with ten minutes left in the half.
- The Blue Hens switched goalkeepers at the beginning of the second half putting in Lauren Krinsky.
- 57 minutes into the game Carr had a shot as the Blue Hens goalkeeper ran out of the box but the ball hit the post.
- Delaware's Riley Dixon took a shot but it went high over the goal.
- Towson attempted two more shots two minutes within each other but, Davey's first shot went left and Nikki Logan's shot went wide right.
- At the 75 minute mark Justine Stoner had a shot on goal but Krinsky had the save.
- A minute left in regulation, Dani Kabat took a shot but Delaney Mitchell had a save for Towson.
- Going into the overtime period, Delaware had two shot attempts both high over the post.
- In the second overtime, Sara D'Appolonia scored for the Blue Hens.
