Fobbs Earns CAA Preseason First Team Honors

TOWSON, Md. – Towson University senior guard Brian Fobbs was named to the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Preseason First Team Wednesday as the conference released its predicted order of finish and preseason squads.

  • Fans will have a perfect opportunity to see Fobbs and the Tigers on Saturday when they host their annual Black and Gold scrimmage in SECU Arena at 1 p.m.

  • Joining Fobbs on the All-CAA Preseason First Team were Charleston's Grant Riller, who was voted the CAA Preseason Player of the Year, William & Mary's Nathan Knight, James Madison's junior Matt Lewis and Hofstra's Eli Pemberton.

  • The preseason poll and conference honors are determined following a vote of the league's coaches, media relations directors and media members.

  • Fobbs leads a group of 10 returnees for the Tigers this season under head coach Pat Skerry, who is entering his ninth year.

  • Fobbs earned All-CAA Second Team accolades last season after leading Towson in scoring with a 17.5 point per game average, which was fifth in the CAA.

  • Fobbs was the only Tiger to start in all 32 games last season. The 561 points he scored was tied for the 10th best single-season total in program history.

  • In reaching double digits in points 27 times last season, Fobbs was eighth in offensive rebounds per game (1.8), ninth in free-throw percentage (80.4), 11th in 3-point field goals made per game (2.0), and 14th in rebounding (5.9 rebounds per game), and 15th in field goal percentage (45.3) and defensive rebounding (4.0).

  • Fobbs scored 20 or more points in a game 13 times last season and had a pair of double-doubles. He finished the regular season strong by scoring 20 or more points in seven of Towson's last 11 games. Fobbs had a stretch in which he scored at least 25 points in four consecutive games from Feb. 9-21.

  • Among some of Fobbs' season highlights was scoring a career best 32 points in a double overtime victory over UMBC on Dec. 11, making the winning foul shots with 5.3 seconds remaining to help Towson beat UNCW on Jan. 31 and sinking a 3-pointer with 10 seconds remaining to force overtime against Delaware on Feb 14.

  • Fobbs was named CAA Player of the Week on Dec. 17 and scored in double figures in 19 consecutive games from Nov. 18-Jan. 31.

  • Tunstall (All-Defensive Team) earned All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) honors last season.

  • Also, joining the team this season will be redshirt junior Juwan Gray, who sat out last season after transferring from San Diego. Many of the returning players had at least one double-digit scoring game last season.

  • Towson opens its season with three consecutive home games beginning with George Washington on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. It's the second game of a men's-women's doubleheader. The Towson women welcome Penn State at 4 p.m.
