SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Monday night the Towson University women's basketball team faced the University of San Diego at Jenny Craig Pavilion falling 81-67.
The Tigers were led by
Nukiya Mayo and
Kionna Jeter who both dropped 17 points with a team-best nine rebounds from Jeter. Sophomore Mya Jones scored 16 points and led the Black and Gold through the first half, it was her highest scoring appearance as a Tiger.
How it Happened
- The home team started out with a lead and held on the entirety of the game.
- At the end of one Towson trailed 15-10.
- The Tigers rebounded in the second period shooting 46 percent from the field, entering the halftime trailing by 11.
- Fighting through the third, Towson saw seven points off the bench from Mya Jones.
- Jones made five of six free throws and one layup as she paced the road team through the third quarter.
- Towson's best offensive showing came in the fourth quarter with nine points from Nukiya Mayo and eight from Kionna Jeter.
- The Tigers shot 66.7 percent from the first in the fourth and 50 percent from beyond the arc, outscoring the home team 25-23 but it would not be enough.
- A layup from Mayo with 3:51 to go cut the lead to nine, the closest Towson would get to tying it up.
Beyond the Box
- Nukiya Mayo scored in double figures for the third straight game, she continues to lead the Tigers averaging 18 points per game.
- This was Mayo's 36th game with at least 10 points. She now has 952 career points.
- Kionna Jeter recorded her 48th career game with double figure scoring and third of the season.
- Myasia Jones' 16 points are a season best and her most scored since joining the Towson squad.
