Jones Leads Towson to First Win of 2019-20 Campaign

TOWSON, Md. - Saturday afternoon the Towson Univeristy women's basketball team secured its first win of the the 2019-20 year over Mount St. Mary's, a 73-57 victory.

Sophomore Myasia Jones led the Tigers with 17 points while Q. Murray posted a team-high 10 rebounds. Also in double figures were Nukiya Mayo and Kionna Jeter with 15 points apiece. 

How it Happened
  • The first three minutes were very back and forth with the score tied three times before Towson went on a 10-1 run to take an eight-point lead.
  • Q. Murray and Nukiya Mayo each scored six in the first quarter to pace the home team.
  • Towson entered the second period leading 20-11 before the Mountaineers battled to close in.
  • Mount St. Mary's scored six points in the opening three minutes of the second quarter ro maintain the nine-point deficit before freshman Maggie Sharp hit her first career points as a Tiger.
  • Sharp's three-point bucket extended the lead to 12 points. The Mount cut the lead to seven to enter the locker room.
  • Back and forth scoring continued in the third before Towson reached a 14-point lead, led by Mayo with eight points in the period.
  • Entering the fourth the Tigers outscored the Mountaineers 17-10, as the road team was able to cut the lead to 10 with 6:33 to go.
  • Towson was led by Myasia Jones with eight points in the fourth, she made two free throws in the final minute creating the Tigers' largest lead of the game at 18 points.
Beyond the Box
  • This is Myasia Jones' second straight game in double figures after dropping 16 at San Diego on Monday.
  • Nukiya Mayo now has 973 career points, she is 27 points away from scoring 1,000. This is her fourth straight game in double figures.
  • Kionna Jeter also recorded her fourth consecutive double-figure night this season, this is her sixth straight game with 10 or more points dating back to last season against Drexel in the CAA Championship game.
  • Q. Murray's team-best 10 rebounds are a career best.
