TOWSON, Md. – Towson senior guard
Brian Fobbs was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men's Basketball co-Player of the Week along with Delaware's Nate Darling. The conference office announced the award winners Monday.
This is the second career Player of the Week honor for Fobbs, who leads Towson in scoring with a 16.2 point per game average. Fobbs enjoyed a memorable performance in Towson's only game last week.
Fobbs recorded a career-best 33 points in Towson's 77-71 win over UMBC, the Tigers' seventh-straight win over the Retrievers. The senior guard knocked down 7-of-9 3-pointers, setting a SECU Arena record by a Towson student-athlete. Fobbs has scored 10 or more points in nine of Towson's 10 games this season.
His 33 point performance was tied for the 12th best single-game scoring performance in Towson history with eight other players. He scored Towson's first six points and had 11 in the first half. His 22-point second point total was helped by six foul shots in the final 27 seconds.
Both of his career 30-point scoring performances have been against UMBC. The seven 3-pointers are the second most in a single-game by a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) student-athlete this season. Fobbs was the fourth Towson player in program history to score at least 32 points in a single-game against UMBC.
Fobbs and Devin Boyd are the only two Towson players with multiple 30 point games against UMBC. Boyd scored 46 on Feb. 27, 1993 and 32 on Feb. 3, 1993. That was the 36th career double digit scoring game for Fobbs and the 16th in which has scored at least 20 or more points.
Towson returns to action Friday when it meets unbeaten Liberty in the Holiday Hoops Classic at the Entertainment & Sports Arena, home of the 2019 WNBA champion Washington Mystics, on Friday, Dec. 20 at 5 p.m.
