Towson Falls to Temple on Wednesday

TOWSON, Md. – Wednesday the Towson University women's basketball team fell to Temple in the annual STEM Day game, a 74-59 final.
 
More than 1,500 Towson fans and school children from the Greater Baltimore Area filled into SECU Arena to celebrate the yearly kids' game. There were educational activities all along the concourse for the children to take part in before the game started.
 
Towson was led by redshirt junior Kionna Jeter with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Q. Murray also scored in double figures with 13 points and Ryan Holder came off the bench with eight points and six rebounds.
 
How it Happened
  • A hard fought first quarter ended with a 13-9 lead for the Owls, Towson trailed the majority of the period after scoring the first point on a free throw from Tess Borgosz.
  • Q. Murray paced the home team in the second period with seven points as the Tigers scored 17, matching Temple's score in the second, entering the locker room down by four.
  • Starting the second half, Kionna Jeter made a jumper to put Towson within two points of tying it up. The Owls responded with two more buckets, extending their lead to six.
  • The back-and-forth scoring continued, Ryan Holder made a layup with 5:18 to go in the third and put the Tigers back within five points.
  • Temple saw a 7-2 run in the following minutes, reaching a 10-point advantage but the Tigers came back with made free throws down the stretch. At the end of the third the road team led by eight.
  • Entering the fourth the Owls extended to another double-figure lead before Towson scored six straight points cutting the lead to six.
  • With 2:05 to go the Tigers trailed by six but sent Mia Davis to the line and she made two free throws putting Temple up by eight again.
  • Jeter made two free throws with 52 seconds to go, cutting the lead to seven, the closest Towson would get to tying it up.
Beyond the Box
  • Today's game was Kionna Jeter's first double-double of the season. It is her eighth straight game this season in double figures and her 10th consecutive game with 10 or more points dating back to the CAA Tournament in March.
  • LaKaitlin Wright played her first game since Nov. 11 and finished with nine points and three rebounds, a season-high for both categories.
  • Q. Murray's 13 point showing is her fourth game this season in double figures.
