Towson and Delaware Meet In Valentine's Night Clash

TOWSON, Md. – It seems only fitting that those old rivals Towson and Delaware gather for an important Valentine's night men's basketball clash at SECU Arena. It'll be the 82nd meeting between the Interstate 95 rivals.

  • This game will feature a festive atmosphere as its Towson student night. In addition, the Tigers will celebrate their Helper Helper community service national championship with several surprises that fans will enjoy. The first 2,000 fans will receive a commemorative national championship sticker. In addition, a lucky Fan of the Game sponsored by Pepsi will have the opportunity to win a Fire.
 
Towson Update
  • Topped James Madisn, 66-59, last Saturday for their fourth win in the past six games.
  • Brian Fobbs scored a team-high 29 points on 11-of-15 FG shooting vs. JMU. It was his fourth 20-point outing in seven games and 20th double-digit effort in the past 21 contests.
  • Fobbs has been TU's top scorer 19 times and ranks 6th in the CAA in scoring (18.0 ppg) in conference play.
  • Jordan McNeil tallied nine points vs. JMU, including a 3-pointer that put TU ahead for good with 7:25 to go.
  • Nakye Sanders had nine points, 8 rebounds, three assists and two blocks vs. JMU. It was his most points and boards since Jan. 17.
  • Tobias Howard added eight points vs. JMU. He's averaging 10.8 ppg in his past four games.
  • Dennis Tunstall grabbed seven rebounds in 18 minutes vs. JMU. He ranks 8th in the CAA with 7.4 rpg.
  • Towson shot 51.1 percent from the floor vs. JMU, including 57.7 percent in the second half. The Tigers are shooting 49.7 percent over the past six games.
 
A Look At Delaware
  • Split a pair of home games last week, losing 83-75 to CofC before beating UNCW, 70-66.
  • Ryan Allen was UD's top scorer vs. CofC (17 pts) and UNCW (15 pts).
  • Allen's reached double digits in 11 of the past 12 games.
  • Eric Carter posted his 12th double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds vs. UNCW.
  • He's among the top eight in the CAA in scoring, rebounds, field goal percentage and blocks and is seven points shy of 1,000 for his career.
  • Kevin Anderson contributed 17 points, four assists and three steals vs. CofC, which was his top scoring effort since Nov. 15. He followed with 14 points in the UNCW win.
  • Darian Bryant added 14 points on 6-of-9 FG shooting vs. CofC.
  • Ryan Johnson had 10 points vs UNCW, which was his second double-digit effort in three games.
  • Ithiel Horton tops all CAA freshmen in scoring (12.3 ppg) and has hit 55 threes.
  • Delaware committed just six TO's vs. CofC and has had 10 or less in seven of the last 11 games.
 
The First Meeting (Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019)
  • Brain Fobbs scored 13 points and Alex Thomas hit a jumper with 22 seconds left to help Towson erase an 18-point deficit to beat Delaware for a seventh consecutive time.
  • Tobias Howard had all his 10 points in the second half and Thomas finished with nine points and a season best eight rebounds for Towson, which escaped a 37-22 halftime hole.
  • Carter had 14 points while Allen and Bryant scored 13 apiece for the Blue Hens.
  • According to ESPN's win-probability model, Towson had a 2.2 percent chance of winning when it trailed 37-19.
  • Towson shot 69.6 percent in the second half.
 
Perfection When It Comes to Graduation
  • Towson has a perfect men's basketball graduation rate under head coach Pat Skerry.
  • The Tigers are 21-for-21.
 
Towson In the Community
  • Towson is the Division I national champion of the NCAA Team Works Helper Helper Competition for the Fall 2018 semester. Towson completed the most community service hours among all schools in the competition, including 75 different Division I departments and approximately 300 total programs across the country.
  • The Towson men's basketball team has been active in the community since returning to campus in August. Members of the team spoke at Loch Raven Academy, participated in Towson West Elementary School's Back To School Night and the Autism Speaks Walk.
  • In addition to the athletic and academic success, the Tigers ranked first nationally in Division I men's team sports for their community service activities in the 2017 NCAA Team Works Helper Helper Community Service Competition.
 
Coaches Powering Forward
  • Autism Speaks Coaches Powering Forward will take place on the weekend of February 15-17, 2019.
  • Tigers host Drexel on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 2 p.m.
  • The Towson women will host the College of Charleston on Sunday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m.
  • Last season, more than 375 NCAA coaches participated by wearing an Autism Speaks blue puzzle piece lapel pin to help increase understanding and acceptance of people with autism.
  • In total, more than 4,400 pins were worn by coaching staff, officials, broadcasters, and school teams.
  • Autism currently affects one in every 59 children in the U.S and for most, is a lifelong condition.
 
CAA Tournament Tickets on Sale
  • All-session ticket books for the 2019 CAA Men's Basketball Championship go on sale Thursday, January 10 through TicketMaster (1-800-745-3000), TicketMaster.com and the North Charleston Coliseum Advance Ticket office.
  • The CAA's premier event returns to the Lowcountry on March 9-12, 2019 as the North Charleston (S.C.) Coliseum hosts nine games over four days, with the winner earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship.
  • Ticket books, which provide admission to all games of the tournament, can be purchased for as little as $80.
