CHRISTAINSBURG, Va. – The final day at the 2019 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship for swimming and diving was highlighted by a performance from Towson swimmer
Jack Saunderson.
While the Tigers finished fourth overall in the end of the championship, Saunderson qualified for NCAA's and broke a CAA All-Time and CAA Meet record that he had previously set, in the men's 200-yard butterfly.
Final Day Results
- As Saunderson won gold in his solo event for the day, Matt Essing will bring home the silver after taking second place in the men's 100-yard freestyle on a time of 43.96.
- In the men's 200-yardd backstroke, Zach Bishop finished third with a time of 1:47.83 while Owen Robinson came in seventh and Evan Lynch 11th.
- Nick McClure also competed in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing two spots behind Saunderson in third. Spencer Franklin took 13th in the event and Matthew Kenney finished 14th.
- Towson's appearance in a relay ended in a third-place finish for Essing, Robinson, Saunderson and Ryan Baldino. The Tigers completed the 400-yard freestyle relay at 2:58.91.
- In the 200-yard breaststroke, three Towson swimmers competed as Ryan O'Leary finished 13th, Ben Johnston 15th and Nick Fitzwilliam 16th.
- Four Tigers competed in the men's 1650-yard freestyle, with Evan Brophy leading the pack in eighth place. Brophy finished with a time of 15:59.68.
- Also in the 1650 were Aaron Magazine in 12th, Andrew Snyder in 14th and Hunter Wright in 15th.
Towson finished in fourth place with 533 points, ahead of Delaware. William & Mary won its fifth-straight CAA title.
