TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University athletics department has earned the prestigious Volunteer Award from the Susan G. Komen Maryland organization.
The Volunteer Award, according to the organization's mission statement, is given to an organization that has performed a high level of volunteer service and commitment during the current year, honoring the impact, time and leadership performed by the organization.
"We are honored to receive the Volunteer Award from the Susan G. Komen Maryland," said Towson director of athletics
Tim Leonard. "We take pride as a department for our community service efforts, and this is a testament to our student-athletes, our staff and our university. Komen's mission to fundraise for a cure to breast cancer is an important and honorable cause, and we are proud to support this organization."
Towson was honored with this award during the organization's annual appreciation & awards ceremony last Tuesday in Baltimore.
Towson takes pride it its commitment to community service, earning the Division I national championship of the NCAA Team Works Helper Helper Competition for the Fall 2018 semester, completing 5,583 hours of community service from September to November in the Greater Baltimore area.
On March 23
