Wilmington, N.C. – The Towson University softball team concluded the weekend series with an 8-1 win over UNCW.
The Tigers (14-12) had 8 runs on 12 hits in the matinee matchup.
How It Happened
- Towson scored first after Riley Thies singled down the left field line and Nicole Stockinger singled to right field driving in Thies.
- UNCW answered back tying the game 1-1.
- In the second inning the Tigers took the lead after Thies singled to right center advancing Jess DaBreo and Lindsey Toneygay scoring Jessica Swistock making the score 2-1.
- In the fourth inning Towson added to the score after Cali Christopher scored when DaBreo reached base on an error making the score 3-1.
- In the fifth inning the Tigers added two more runs after Stockinger doubled up the middle and Chloe Poulich reached on a fielding error by UNCW's shortstop allowing Stockinger to score. Kendall Arcia singled to first base with a bunt and advanced Poulich to third who scored on a sac fly by Swistock. Towson went up 5-1.
- Towson added another run in the top of the sixth when Julia Smith-Harrington reached base with a single up the middle and advanced to second on a throwing error. She scored when Swistock reached base on a throwing error, advancing Arcia to second and scoring Smith-Harrington giving the Tigers a 6-1 lead.
- Towson added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh and ended the game 8-1.
- Sara Johnson pitched 2.0 innings for Towson and was the winning pitcher for the game.
