Durjan and Lee Reflect Before Senior Day Saturday

TOWSON, Md. – For the Towson University women's basketball team, there are two more games scheduled. Next week it's win or go home at the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship hosted by the University of Delaware.

On Saturday afternoon, the Tigers will celebrate redshirt senior Maia Lee and senior Danielle Durjan prior to the 2 p.m. game against Drexel. It will be Durjan and Lee's last time suiting up to play in SECU Arena and one of their last games playing for Towson. The duo reflected on their last season playing in Black and Gold, and are looking ahead to what is to come.

Both student-athletes transferred to Towson after beginning their basketball career at other institutions. Durjan, a Montgomery County native, started at Sacred Heart in Connecticut before spending a year at Harford Community College and coming to TU. Lee hails from Falls Church, Virginia and began her college years at Old Dominion in Norfolk, Virginia, before transferring to Towson and sitting one year for eligibility purposes.

Between the two they have played a combined 139 games as Tigers. Durjan currently has 420 career points, 182 rebounds, 70 assists, 74 steals and 13 blocks. Lee, one of the team's leading rebounders, has 268 career points, 368 rebounds, 49 blocks and 27 steals.

Below is a Q&A with Durjan and Lee prior to Saturday's game.

What does it mean to you to be a Tiger?
"To be a Tigers is being a part of the Towson community, I think. Not only academically, but on the court you're a Tiger with all the fellow athletes and it's a big community." – Maia

"I feel like what it means to be a Tiger brings a bunch of pride to me, to know I stand here and mean something to someone and the community. That really influences me to be a better person and have a strong meaning in my life." – Dani

What has it meant to you to play basketball here?
"It means a lot, in general just to play basketball at the college level especially a division one. It means a lot to me and my family, going to school without cost. Also being at Towson is close to home, even my high school coach was telling me about Towson before. It's a really big deal for me to be here, I transferred from ODU in Virginia which is too far, so being close to home is great for me."- Maia

"I agree with Maia, the thought that I'm in the same state that I grew up in, every game is a home game for me and my family can come to my games. It's key and important to my success, and being at Towson is recognizable. Being able to say that we went to Towson and played basketball here is something that's really genuine." – Dani

What is your favorite memory for playing for Towson?
"My favorite memory would have to be when we swept JMU. It was a big thing in general because we weren't winning many games, but the rivalry with JMU is big and they were big games. We all came together and got the job done, the second game was here and the crowd was all into it, we were all hugging each other after we won. It was a great moment because we had beaten the number one team in the conference." – Maia

"I can say I always enjoyed the STEM games, when we played UMBC my junior year and Loyola this year. Being able to play in front of the community and with all the kids, they look up to us. Using basketball as a gateway to influence them is cool, those games have been my favorite." – Dani

What are you looking forward to in your last games playing for Towson?
"To have a bye in the tournament is something I've never seen Towson do before. Not playing the first day next week and winning our games so we can win the CAA Championship is definitely the mindset and that's what I'm looking forward to." – Maia

"I think I'm just looking forward to living in the moment and thinking about how surreal it is that my college career is almost to an end and how fast it happened. I think in these last games I'm going to take the moment in and play my hardest, might get a little fancy out there, who knows! Just one last time." – Dani

What's next?
"For me, what's next is just figuring out the rest of my life. Finding my purpose, getting a closer walk with God. Also finding a way to help people as much as I can, whether that be teaching, coaching basketball, whatever profession I get into. Now I'll have more time to be with my family. That's probably what's next, if anyone's hiring let me know." – Dani

"I'm still going to be in school so not completely leaving academics. Getting into my field, really focusing and narrowing in on that, without a basketball schedule. After the CAA Tournament we will still be here and still rooming with our teammates, so enjoying that time we have left with them." – Maia

Durjan and Lee play their final game at SECU Arena on Saturday, March 9 at 2 p.m. against Drexel.
