Smith-Harrington Helps Towson Beat St. Peter's

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Towson University softball team split a pair of games during the first day of the Spartan Classic hosted by UNCG Saturday. After dropping a 10-9 decision to host UNCG, the Tigers rebounded to beat St. Peter's, 10-2.
 
Towson has an overall record of 5-5.
 
How It Happened Game One
  • Kendall Arcia had four runs batted in.
  • Arcia hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to give Towson an 8-6 lead.
  • Sara Johnson had three hits, including two doubles.
  • Riley Thies also had two hits for the Tigers, who scored six runs in the third inning.
  • The big hits in the third inning were Arcia's two-run double, Johnson's RBI double and Jess DeBreo's RBI single.
  • Johnson struck out four batters in 5.1 innings.
  • UNCG scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally for the win.
 
How It Happened Game Two
  • Chloe Poulich led the Tigers with two hits and two RBIs.
  • Poulich also scored twice.
  • Nicole Stockinger scored three runs.
  • In addition to scoring two runs, Julia Smith-Harrington struck out 11 batters in pitching a complete game.
  • Smith-Harrington threw 101 pitches.
  • Towson scored four two-out runs in the bottom of the first inning.
  • Poulich's two-run single in the first gave Towson the lead for good, 3-2.
  • Smith-Harrington, Reyan Tuck and Lindsay Toneygay had RBIs in the third inning to help the Tigers extend their lead to 7-2.
  • Stockinger's RBI double was the centerpiece of the Tigers three-run fourth inning.
  • Towson was 3-for-3 with runners on third base and less than two outs.
  • Alyssa Mido hit a two-out, two-run homer to give the Peacocks a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

  • Towson concludes the UNCG Spartan Classic on Sunday when it plays Sacred Heart at 1 p.m. and UNCG at 6 p.m. The games were moved back an hour because of expected rain in the Greensboro area.
