Football Volunteers in Community at Walk MS: Baltimore, and Dumpster Day

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University football team may be in its offseason, but the Tigers continue their community service to give back to the Greater Baltimore area.

This weekend, the team participated in two events in the Greater Baltimore community: the entire team helped with Walk MS: Baltimore and 15 players participated in Dumpster Day Recycling at Rodger's Forge.

Walk MS Baltimore, affiliated with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, is an annual event that helps raise money and awareness to fight multiple sclerosis.

"The support of the TU football players helps ensure the success of Walk MS," said Amanda Glenn, the Director of Walk MS. "Towson in turn raises more than $100,000 annually to fund life changing research, services and programs for people living with MS."

Players and staff assisted with numerous different tasks during the event to help the cause, working in two-hour shifts from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

"From encouraging walkers at the finish line to moving tables and hauling garbage, the players and staff have done whatever is needed to make the event a success for 10 years," said Glenn.

Dumpster Day Recycling is an annual recycling pick-up to assist area residents with recycling in Baltimore County.  Players helped with the moving and recycling from 8 a.m. to noon at a local elementary school.

The Towson football team considers community service a vital part of the program.  The team's efforts helped the Towson athletics department earn the NCAA Team Works Helper Helper National Championship in Fall 2018 for community service.
