Gibson Signs With Towson

TOWSON, Md. – Towson University head men's basketball coach Pat Skerry has announced the signing of Jason Gibson to a National Letter of Intent to attend the University and begin playing for the Tigers in the fall of 2019.

A 6 foot, 1 inch guard, Gibson brings a winning pedigree to the Tigers. He had a senior season to remember by leading Sidwell Friends to its first DCSAA (District of Columbia State Athletic Association) Class AA championship.

He was the DCSAA State Tournament Most Valuable Player and Player of the Year. In addition, Gibson was selected to the USA TODAY ALL-USA District of Columbia Boys Basketball Team.

After averaging 18.9 points per game, Gibson was an All-Met First Team along with fellow Towson signee Charles Thompson. Throughout his high school career, Jason has scored more than 1,500 points. Gibson was the heart of the Quakers' offense this season, scoring the winning basket in the tournament quarterfinals and 24 points in the championship game.

"We are thrilled to welcome Jason into our program," Skerry said. "He's a local student-athlete who is a proven winner. He comes from a great family and we're excited that they will get an opportunity to see him play consistently. Assistant coach Pat O'Connell did an outstanding job in recruiting him. Jason will represent our University and our program very well. He's played for an outstanding coach in Eric Singletary at Sidwell Friends. We look forward to him impacting our program."

Gibson is a high-IQ, lead guard who is known for his ability to shoot the basketball at a very high level. He demands attention from defenders every time he steps onto the floor. Accompanied with his shot-making ability, Gibson has a knack for making plays off the dribble.

Gibson is a very good passer who can create easy scoring opportunities for his teammates. In addition, he is very dangerous in ball screen situations with his ability to break down a defense and pick his points of attack.

Towson will release its 2019-20 schedule at a later date. In addition, season ticket packages will go on sale later this year.
