TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team (11-31, 5-9 CAA) was defeated by William & Mary (25-18, 7-10 CAA) 7-0 in the middle contest of the three-game series.
Towson mustered eight hits in the game but could not score on W&M starter Bodie Sheehan (4-2), who went eight scoreless innings.
Key Stats:
- Tom Flacco earned a multi-hit day from the nine-spot of the order, finishing 2-for-3. Richard Miller, Trey Martinez and Isaiah Winikur each had a double.
- The loss went to Gavin Weyman (3-6), who threw 6.1 innings with seven runs, only four earned, with five strikeouts. Austin Weber and Kody Reeser combined for 2.2 innings of scoreless relief.
- For William & Mary, Kyle Wrighte concluded 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and two RBI. Bodie Sheehan won with eight innings thrown, striking out five batters.
How it Happened:
- William & Mary got the game's first scores in the top of the second as Matt McDermott's RBI double and Kyle Wrighte's RBI single brought home unearned runs. Later, a double steal gave W&M a third run in the top of the third to go up 3-0.
- Towson threatened in the bottom of the third with back-to-back hits by Trey Martinez and Tom Flacco, but W&M got out of the inning with no runs. The Tribe added two more in the fourth and another in the fifth to lead 6-0.
- Towson got baserunners in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings but could not break Bodie Sheehan. Another W&M run in the seventh gave the eventual final score 7-0.
Inside the Numbers:
- Tom Flacco earned his eighth multi-hit game of the season today.
- Before today's outing, Gavin Weyman had won his previous three starts.
- The longest base reached streak of 15 games and hitting streak of seven games for Towson, belonging to Brad Powers, were snapped tonight.
