Johnson Has Career Best 12 Strikeouts Against Delaware

NEWARK, Del. – The dominant pitching of Sara Johnson and hot-hitting of Nicole Stockinger helped the Towson University softball team split a doubleheader against Delaware in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action Saturday at the UD Softball Stadium.
 
The Tigers won the first game behind Johnson's 12 strikeout performance, 6-0. The Blue Hens won the nightcap, 11-6.
 
How It Happened Game One
  • Johnson's strikeout total was a career high.
  • It was her second shutout of the season.
  • She allowed two hits and worked around some leadoff baserunners second, third and fourth innings.
  • Johnson retired the side in order in the first and seventh innings.
  • This was Johnson's ninth game this season with at least five strikeouts.
  • While Johnson handcuffed the Blue Hens, Stockinger handled the offense.
  • Stockinger had a RBI double in the first inning and a RBI triple in the third inning.
  • Chloe Poulich also had two hits for the Tigers.
  • Eight Towson players had at least one hit.
  • Julia Smith-Harrington hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning.
 
How It Happened Game Two
  • Thies, Smith-Harrington and Poulich had two hits each for the Tigers.
  • Towson had 10 hits for the second straight game.
  • Jessica Swistock had a RBI triple to give Towson an early 1-0 lead in the second inning.
  • Breanna McDowell followed with a sacrifice fly that scored Swistock to double the Tigers' advantage.
  • Delaware took control by scoring six runs in the bottom of the third inning.
  • Julia Jackson had a RBI triple and Poulich had a RBI double in the sixth inning.
  • Smith-Harrington and Stockinger had RBIs in the seventh inning.
