Tiger Trio Earns Inside Lacrosse Media All-America Honors

BALTIMORE -- Sunday evening, three Towson University men's lacrosse standouts earned All-America honors as voted on by the media members for Inside Lacrosse.

Senior short stick defensive midfielder Zach Goodrich earned First Team Media All-America for the first time in his career while collecting his third Media All-America honors as a Tiger. He was joined by faceoff specialist Alex Woodall, who earned his first Media All-America plaudits, was a second team after being named honorable mention last season. Sophomore defenseman Koby Smith was named to the third team for the first time in his career.

Drafted third overall by two professional lacrosse leagues, Goodrich capped his career with 65 caused turnovers, including 17 this year. His 65 forces are tied for the fourth-most by a Tiger over the course of a career. The program's first-ever three-time captain, Goodrich appeared in 67 games for the Tigers, playing in every game of his four-year career. This season, Goodrich was a weapon in transition, picking up five points on three goals and two assists. He grabbed 37 ground balls in 2019, seeing time on the faceoff wing and helping Towson win nearly 70 percent of its faceoffs.

Another two-time first-round draft pick, Woodall had one of the single-best faceoff seasons in program history. The specialist won 227 of his 306 faceoffs, a 74.2 winning percentage. Woodall's winning percentage in 2019 is the second-best ever in Towson history, trailing only Mark Goers' 77.9 percentage in 1994 that stood as an NCAA record until last season. His 2019 winning percentage will go down in NCAA as one of the single-best seasons in the record books. His 227 wins this season are the second-most for a Tiger in a single season. Woodall missed three full games with an upper body injury suffered in the first quarter of the April 20 game against Delaware. Woodall snapped up 156 ground balls this year, setting a program record a ranking third in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) history.

Only a sophomore, Smith emerged as one of the best close defenders in the country, often guarding opponents' top offensive threats. After starting all 16 games at close defense this season, Smith finished the year with 20 caused turnovers, just shy of the program's single-season top 10 list. Smith had one of the best offensive seasons for a defender in Tiger history, scoring 10 points on six goals and four assists. Smith collected 30 ground balls through the season as well.
