TOWSON, Md. -- The Towson University women's outdoor track and field team is set to compete at the 2019 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Outdoor Track and Field Championships beginning Friday, May 3 and concluding Saturday, May 4 at the Irwin Belk Track on the campus of Elon University.

Head Towson women's track and field coach Mike Jackson will have a strong contingent of student-athletes competing in this year's CAA championships.
CAA Championship Meet Details
Elon last hosted the CAA Championships in 2016. Competition will begin at 10 a.m. with field events on both Friday and Saturday.

Last Year at the CAA Championships
Towson finished third at the 2018 CAA Championship Meet with 136 points. The Tigers won the 2017 CAA Championship.

Victoria Jones-Alleyne (100-meter hurdles) is a returning CAA champion as is the Tigers 4 x 100-meter relay team.

Arianna Waller ran on Towson's winning relay team last year.
Lauren Coleman, who is not competing this year, won the shot put and
Megan Kelly, who graduated, won the 400-meter hurdles at last year's CAA championships. The meet was held at William & Mary.

Mid-Atlantic Rankings
is ranked sixth in the United States Track and Field Cross-Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) fifth weekly Mid-Atlantic Regional Outdoor Track & Field Index. Towson, which climbed one spot from last week after a strong showing at the Penn Relays last week, is the highest ranked Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) program in the weekly index.

Top in the Conference
Crystal Johnson (100-meter dash), Reid (400-meter run), Jones-Alleyne (100-meter hurdles),
Shelby Francis (400-meter hurdles), Horvath (pole vault) and
Michella Obijiaku (shot put) have the best marks in their respective events on the recent conference performance list heading into this weekend's CAA Championship meet. The Tigers also have the fastest 4 x 100 relay time.

In addition, Reid has the second fastest time in the CAA in the 200 while Johnson is third in the same event. Waller is fourth and
Shamika Burton is fifth in the 100 on the CAA performance list.
Helnsarah Penda is second on the CAA performance list in the 100-meter hurdles.

Horvath's school record clearance of 4.05 meters (13-03.50) in the pole vault is tied for 21st in the East Region. Sawyer, who is second in the CAA in the discus and third in the shot put, is 31st in the East Region in the discus.

Meanwhile,
Taylor Giles (third hammer throw),
Georgia Coleman (fifth hammer throw), Burton (tied for fourth long jump) and Francis (fifth) are ranked among the top five in their respective events on the CAA performance list.

Weekly Recognition
Three Tigers have received weekly accolades from the conference office this season. Horvath was named CAA Field Athlete of the Week on April 1 and 8.Â
Crystal Johnson has picked up Track Athlete of the Week three times after dominating sprints and hurdles (March 21, April 8 and 22) and
Phontavia Sawyer won Field Athlete of the Week this past week.

School Record Holders
Johnson (100-meters), Reid (200-meters), Sawyer (discus) and Horvath (pole vault) all have established school records this season. The Tigers 4 x 100 relay team of Reid, Waller, Burton and Johnson are also part of the school record club.
