Football Continues Community Service in the Area

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University football team is continuing to serve its role in the area, taking part in community service activities over the weekend.

On Friday, head coach Rob Ambrose and several players went to White Oak School, helping with the special needs school.  They interacted with the students, including playing one-hand touch football with them and celebrating their accomplishments over the year in a ceremony, being supportive of and interacting the kids.

"I am so grateful to Rob and the TU football team for coming to my school," said Jacki Molen, worker at the White Oak School. "The team coming was the highlight of the year. The boys and girls at this special education school were looking forward to this all year, and it was a great day. This was their Super Bowl."

Then on Sunday, three players helped the Red Devils, an organization that assists families of people suffering from breast cancer.  The players helped unload trucks and move furniture, plus other products and essentials, for the fundraiser held in the main ballroom of a hotel in Baltimore.  Towson football personnel have assisted with this event the last couple of years.

"For two years, the Towson football team has played a starring role in helping The Red Devils raise funds to improve the quality of life for Maryland breast cancer families," said Jan Wilson, executive director of The Red Devils. "On the first Sunday in May, they show up for our Wine Women & Shoes event to help with all the heavy lifting necessary to set the stage for our fundraising gala. They pitch in to unload cars, vans, and trucks filled with props and merchandise. And when the unloading is finished, we can count on them to help out wherever needed to get us ready to host more than 300 guests. The Towson football team members are Wine Women & Shoes MVPs."

The Towson football team considers community service a vital part of the program.  The team's efforts helped the Towson athletics department earn the NCAA Team Works Helper Helper National Championship in Fall 2018 for community service.
