Wallace Nominated for 2019 Allstate AFCA Good Works® Team

TOWSON, Md. – Former Towson University football player Diondre Wallace has been placed on the 2019 Allstate AFCA Good Works Teams® Nominee List, announced by the organization on Tuesday.

The Baltimore native is one of 137 nominees across the country in college football to be nominated for the Good Works Team®, established in 1992 as one of the most coveted community service awards.  All players were nominated by sports information directors.

Wallace was honored with the Towson Golden PAWS Community Service Award, given to the Towson student-athlete that demonstrates a commitment to community service.  He has worked with Chatsworth EMS, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Awareness, Team Up for 1, Pawject Runway and Be the Match among others, also visiting five elementary schools in the Baltimore area to read stories.  He also served as a vice president of the Towson Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Towson Athletics won the national champion NCAA Team Works Helper Helper Competition for the Fall 2018 semester with Tiger student-athletes completing 5,583 hours of community service.

On the field, Wallace graduated with 290 career tackles for Towson, ranking seventh all-time in school history.  He was a team captain for the Tigers in 2018, with Towson making the FCS Playoffs with seven victories and Wallace earning All-CAA Third Team recognition.

"These 137 nominees are examples to not only their fellow student-athletes, but to everyone in this great nation that selfless acts of giving back will enrich the lives of people they know, and don't know, who benefit from their generosity," AFCA Executive Director Todd Berry said in the official press release.

"To be named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team is no small feat and goes above and beyond sportsmanship and leadership in the classroom or on the field," said Tim Tebow, two-time national champion, Heisman Trophy winner and 2009 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® member in the official press release. "These student-athletes believe in the power of giving back and enriching the lives of others, while also helping to shape the lives of future young athletes. Each year, I am struck by the caliber of these nominees and humbled to be a part of telling their stories."

The final team will be announced on Sept. 12th.  22 will be selected by a panel of former members and media personnel.
