Men’s Lacrosse Pro Roundup: Week Five

TOWSON, Md. -- It was a return to the Old Line State for a handful of former Towson University men's lacrosse student-athletes over the weekend. Four former Tigers suited up across Major League Lacrosse (MLL) and the Premiere Lacrosse League (PLL).

Overall, former Tigers are a combined 12-4 in the two leagues. Six former Tigers were involved in pro lacrosse games this weekend, including four athletes, a member of the front office and an assistant coach.

Ryan Drenner (Whipsnakes LC, PLL)

The Whipsnakes suffered their first loss of the PLL season last weekend at Georgia State Stadium, falling 14-11 to Redwoods LC. Ryan Drenner tacked on another pair of goals as he continues his bid for an All-Star berth

Up Next for Drenner: The PLL returns to the Mid-Atlantic this weekend for three games at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. Drenner and the Whipsnakes will rematch with the Atlas in the second game on Saturday, July 6.

Zach Goodrich (Boston Cannons, MLL)
The Boston Cannons fell for the first time in 2019, dropping a 17-16 decision at Veterans Memorial Stadium against the Denver Outlaws on Saturday. Zach Goodrich snagged one ground ball while putting his one shot on net in Quincy, Massachusetts. 

The defensive midfielder is on the ballot for the MLL's All-Star game.

Up Next for Goodrich: The Cannons and Goodrich head to the Lone Star State on Sunday, July 7 for a 1:30 p.m. tilt against the Dallas Rattlers at The Star in Frisco.

Brendan Sunday (Atlanta Blaze, MLL)
The Atlanta Blaze came to Navy-Marine Corps Stadium on Saturday night and despite a weather delay, torched the homestanding Chesapeake Bayhawks 19-10. Brendan Sunday took three total shots, putting two on cage. He added a ground ball to his stat line as well.

Up Next for Sunday: The Atlanta Blaze have a double weekend, returning to Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on Saturday, July 6 for a 7 p.m. showdown against the Bayhawks before returning to Grady Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia on Sunday, July 7 for a 4 p.m. clash against the New York Lizards. 

Alex Woodall (Atlanta Blaze, MLL)
Alex Woodall had one of his finest outings with the Blaze, winning 18 of his 31 draws en route to a 19-10 win in his hometown of Annapolis against the Chesapeake Bayhawks. The St. Mary's High School product collected 14 ground balls, drawing primarily against the Bayhawks' longstick midfielder CJ Costabile.

Woodall is on the ballot for the upcoming MLL All-Star Game.

Spencer Ford (Atlanta Blaze, MLL)

The Atlanta Blaze picked up a 19-10 win over the host Chesapeake Bayhawks Saturday evening at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium to move into second place in the MLL standings with a 3-1 record.

Mark Goers (Chesapeake Bayhawks, MLL)
The Chesapeake Bayhawks fell 19-10 on Saturday in the team's first home game at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.

Up Next for Goers: It will be a quick turnaround for the Bayhawks as Chesapeake heads from the coast to the mountains for a 9 p.m. clash against the Denver Outlaws at Mile High Stadium in Denver, Colorado.
