TOWSON, Md. – Towson University pitcher
Matt Watters has had a strong summer thus far and has been rewarded, being named an All-Star in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League (CRCBL).
Watters has been with the Gaithersburg Giants in the CRCBL this summer and currently stands as the team's leader in ERA at 2.18. He has made 10 appearances out of the bullpen, being 2-1 with two saves in 12.1 innings, striking out 11.
The CRCBL is a wooden-bat summer league based in southern Maryland, D.C. and northern Virginia. Four Tigers, including Watters,
Javon Fields,
Jake Pecilunas and
Austin Weber, have played in the league this season.
Watters will pitch for Team Maryland in the CRCBL All-Star Game, which will pit its three Maryland-based teams against the three from the D.C./Virginia areas. The game will be played at 7 p.m. on July 10
th at Shirley Povich Field in Bethesda.
For Towson this year, Watters, who will be a redshirt junior in 2020, pitched in 19 games, striking out 29 in 23.1 innings.
