Murray Scores Career-High 22 Against Hofstra

TOWSON, Md. Sunday afternoon the Towson University women's basketball team rolled to its sixth consecutive win, taking down Hofstra 84-71.

The Tigers were led by Q. Murray who posted a career-high 22 points while Kionna Jeter and Nukiya Mayo also scored 21 apiece and Ryan Holder dropped 12. Towson improves to 10-8 on the season and is 5-2 in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action.

How it Happened
  • Hofstra struck quickly and early, taking an 11-4 lead with 6:20 to go in the first forcing a Towson timeout.
  • The Tigers had a shooting slump there in the first quarter as the Pride continued to stretch ahead, taking an 18-8 lead.
  • Entering the second quarter Towson outscored the road team 19-17 but entered the locker room trailing.
  • With 4:05 to go the Tigers were one point away from tying the game, Hofstra made three straight free throws to extend its lead. At halftime Towson was down by five, 41-36 lead for the Pride.
  • Led by Q. Murray and Kionna Jeter, the Tigers tied it up 50-50 by the media timeout of the third and took a 52-50 lead with just over three to go in the quarter.
  • Hofstra came within four points of tying the game up in the opening minutes of the fourth, the closest the Pride would get to closing the gap.
  • Jeter made a layup with 6:35 to go, putting the Black and Gold up by 14 points, reaching the highest lead at that point in the game and putting it virtually out of reach.
Beyond the Box
  • Q. Murray's 22 points were her career best, she made 9-of-17 field goal attempts and shot 100 percent from three. She now has 922 career points.
  • Kionna Jeter, with 16 points, has now scored in double-figures in 20 straight games dating back to last March.
  • This was the first time since Jeter, Murray and Nukiya Mayo played on a team together that they have all scored 20 points in the same game.
  • This was also the first time this season to have Ryan Holder, Jeter, Mayo and Murray all in double figures. It is the second time this year to have four Tigers score in double figures.
  • Towson shot 45.2 percent from the field, the fifth conference game this season with 40 or better shooting percentage.
  • The win is Towson's fourth-straight win over Hofstra, dating back to last January on the road.
Looking Ahead
Towson hits the road for the next three straight games, taking on Drexel on Friday night in Philadelphia for a rematch of the 2019 CAA title game.
