TOWSON, Md. – Wednesday night the Towson University women's basketball team hosted Chestnut Hill in the final nonconference game of the regular season. Towson came out with a win, 86-49.
The Tigers were led by
Nukiya Mayo with a double-double 19 points and 10 rebounds while
Shavonne Smith dropped a career-high 16 points.
Kionna Jeter dropped 13 and
Rayna Barbour also scored a career-best 10 points.
Towson moves to 5-8 on the season and returns to the court on Sunday afternoon to host James Madison.
How it Happened
- The opening minutes were slow with Towson holding a 5-0 lead five minutes in.
- The Tigers rolled out to a 16-4 lead with 3:17 remaining in the quarter, Shavonne Smith led the Black & Gold with six points at the end of the first.
- In the second quarter scoring was very back and forth but the home team remained ahead. The Griffins kept it within 16 points of tying it up, until the final two seconds of the half where Towson took a 21-point advantage.
- At the half Smith was leading the Tigers with 12 points while Kionna Jeter had 10.
- Starting the third quarter Towson led 46-25.
- Towson continued to hold a strong lead, paced by Mayo who dropped 12 points in the second half and Barbour who came off the bench for 10 in the final 20 minutes.
Beyond the Box
- Towson saw 15 players score tonight, including career nights from Smith and Barbour. Smith also matched her career-best in rebounds with five.
- This was Towson's fifth game this season averaging at least 40 percent from the field.
- Kionna Jeter has scored in double-figures every game this season, 13 consecutive showings, and 15 straight overall.
- Nukiya Mayo's 19 points were her 11th game with 10 or more, her 43rd career game with double digit points.

Towson hosts James Madison on Sunday returning to CAA play. The game tips at 2 p.m. at SECU Arena, fans are encouraged to wear black and the Tigers will be celebrating Alumnae Day.
