TOWSON, Md. – This week's Tiger Talk, Spiro Morekas, the voice of the Towson Tigers, sits down with former Towson University basketball Hall of Famer
Chuck Lightening.
After sitting out his freshman season, Lightening was a key member of Towson's three straight East Coast Conference (ECC) championship teams from 1990-92.
As a sophomore, he was the top reserve on the Tigers' first ECC championship team that advanced to the NCAA Tournament and played Oklahoma in the first round.
In his junior year, he moved into a starting role and made first team All-ECC. Lightening averaged 16.1 points per game and led the Tigers in rebounding with a 6.3 average. In the NCAA Tournament against Ohio State, he scored a game-high 26 points in the Tigers' 97-86 loss. He was honored as the CBS Player of the Game.
In his senior season, he earned his second straight first team All-ECC honors as he helped the Tigers win their third consecutive ECC title. That year, he averaged 18.6 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.
A 1992 graduate with a degree in business administration, Lightening finished his career with 1,305 points and was inducted into the Towson Hall of Fame in 2003.
