Men’s Lacrosse Receiving Votes in All Three Polls

TOWSON, Md. -- After dropping a season opening game on the road, the Towson University men's lacrosse teams slipped to the receiving votes column in all three major polls this week.

Towson (0-1) fell 15-7 to longtime rival Johns Hopkins, then ranked 11th in the USILA Coaches Poll, in the 2020 season opener.

The Tigers received five points in the USILA Coaches' Poll, sitting just behind CAA rivals Delaware and UMass, both of which had six points. Virginia led the poll with 371 points and 12 first-place nods, followed by Penn State's 366 points and six first place votes. Yale had 340 points and the remaining first-place selection. Maryland grabbed 310 points while Syracuse had 291 points to round out the top five.

In the Maverick Inside Lacrosse Media Poll, the Tigers slipped to the receiving votes column, as did Delaware and UMass. Hofstra received votes as well, bringing the CAA total to four in the Media Poll mentions. Penn State was first with 427 points and a dozen first-place picks, one point ahead of Virginia's 426 points and nine first-place votes. Yale again had the outstanding first place selection while garnering 389 points. Maryland and Syracuse rounded out the top five with 368 and 343 points, respectively.

Towson landed in the Also Considered category of the Nike/US Lacrosse Magazine Top 20, joined by league compatriots Delaware and UMass. US Lacrosse Magazine ranked the top five as: Penn State, Virginia, Yale, Maryland and Notre Dame.

The Tigers host their home opener Saturday afternoon at Johnny Unitas ® Stadium, bringing in-state foe Mount St. Mary's to town. Opening faceoff is set for noon and will be carried live and free on the Towson Sports Network.
