Jeter Records Double-Double As Towson Downs UNCW

TOWSON, Md. – Friday night the Towson University women's basketball team hosted its Play4Kay game against UNCW and came out with a strong 78-45 victory.
 
The Tigers were paced by Kionna Jeter with a double-double 20 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Q. Murray dropped 16 while Nukiya Mayo and Shavonne Smith posted 10 each. Towson moves to 11-11 on the season and 6-5 in conference play.
 
How it Happened
  • The game started quite slow with a score of 1-0 five minutes in.
  • Back and forth scoring followed, with Towson leading 13-9 at the end of the first.
  • In the second period the Seahawks tied it up 13-13 before Towson came roaring back.
  • The Tigers air-tight defense held UNCW scoreless for almost seven minutes as the home team outscored the Seahawks 25-11.
  • Towson went on a 20-2 run in the second quarter, taking a 38-20 lead into the locker room. At the half the Tigers were led by Kionna Jeter with 11 points and Nukiya Mayo with 10.
  • With 8:52 to go in the third UNCW cut the lead to 18 and cut it below 20 again with 5:46 left in the period.
  • Two minutes later the Tigers extended their lead to 25 and would hold a lead of 20 or more for the remainder of the game.
Beyond the Box
  • Kionna Jeter recorded her second double-double of the year and her 21st game in double figures scoring.
  • Nukiya Mayo also posted her 19th straight game in double digits with 10. Q. Murray dropped 16, her 12th game of the season with 10 or more.
  • Murray led the Tigers with three assists and three steals.
  • Shavonne Smith recorded her second game of the year with 10 or more points.
  • Senior Olivia Finckel recorded her first collegiate basketball points on a free throw in the fourth quarter. The Baltimore native joined the TU women's squad before the trip to Drexel and Delaware and has seen action in two games.
  • A total of 11 players out of 13 who saw the court scored for Towson.
  • This was the third game this season where Towson had four players score in double figures. The Tigers are 3-0 with four players who have 10 or more points.
Looking Ahead
Towson hosts the College of Charleston on Sunday afternoon at SECU Arena for the annual Autism Awareness game.
