Gymnastics Set to Compete in Quad-Meet at West Virginia

TOWSON, Md. - The Towson University gymnastics team heads to Morgantown, West Virginia for a weekend quad-meet.

West Virginia is hosting Towson, Western Michigan, and Bowling Green inside Cary Gymnasium on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 1 p.m.

Last Time Out
Towson defeated Yale University (193.200-193.050) and fell to the University of Pittsburgh (193.200-194.700) on February 15 at the University of Pittsburgh.
Key highlights include: Ally Wesoly tied for third on vault with a season-high score of 9.800. Wesoly and Camille Vitoff tied for second on the uneven bars with a score of 9.725. Paige Casper tied fourth on floor with a season-high score of 9.825.
 
Scouting West Virginia
The Mountaineers placed second in a tri-meet at Oklahoma with a score of 195.575 on Feb. 14. WVU scored 49.225 on floor exercise and 48.9 on vault and uneven bars, and 48.55 on balance beam. The Mountaineers matched their season high on vault for the fourth time this season. 
 
Scouting Western Michigan
The Broncos faced their first dual meet loss on Feb. 14 against Illinois (195.900-194.850). This was their fifth time this season scoring higher than 194.800. WMU had its season best score on bars with a score of 48.975. Senior Amelia Mohler scored 9.900 on bars, tying the fifth highest mark in the program's history. Junior Morgan Spence had her highest all-around score of the season with a 38.675 and she placed second overall.
 
Scouting Bowling Green
The Falcons won their Diversity and Inclusion Meet on February 15 against Illinois State (194.550-194.350) and Temple (194.550-193.550). 194.550 is Bowling Green's season best. BGSU had a score of 48.700 on vault which tied for the second-best vault score of the year. The Falcons also had a season best floor score of 48.825.  Elena Lawson had a season best 9.800 on the vault with her career high being 9.825. Paige Bachner set a new personal best score on the uneven bars with 9.675. Jovannah East finished third in the all-around competition with a score of 39.225.

Conference Rankings
  • Ally Wesoly is ranked third in conference in the all-around with an average and high score of 38.925. She is also tied for 21st on vault (9.713 avg., 9.800 high), sixth on bars (9.742 avg., 9.800 high) and tied for 25th on floor (9.725 avg. and high).
  • Lauren Bolen is ranked eighth in the all-around with an average score of 38.506 and high score of 38.825. She is tied for 21st on vault (9.713 avg., 9.750 high) and 22nd on beam (9.696 avg., 9.775 high).
  • Amy Stewart is tied for 15th on bars with an average score of 9.675 and a 9.875 high.
  • Emerson Hurst is tied for sixth on beam with an average score of 9.750 and a high of 9.875. She is tied for 18th on vault (9.725 avg., 9.775 high).
  • Tess Zientek is ranked 11th on bars with an average score of 9.708 and a 9.850 high.
  • Nikki Borkowski is ranked 28th on vault with an average score of 9.679 and a 9.750 high.
  • Camille Vitoff is ranked 20th on vault with an average score of 9.717 and high of 9.800. She is also tied for sixth on beam with an average and high score of 9.750. 
  • Paige Casper is ranked 23rd on floor (9.733 avg., 9.825 high).
  • Kyla Gamble is tied for 23rd on vault (9.700 avg., 9.800 high) She is tied for 15th on bars with an average score of 9.675 and high of 9.750.
Tigers in the Community
The Towson University athletics department deems community service as one of its highest priorities to give back to the Greater Baltimore area.
  • For the 7th consecutive year, the department exceeded 10,000 hours of community service to the Greater Baltimore region, finishing with 11,162 hours of community service in the 2018-19 academic season.
  • Towson ranked #1 nationally for community service and won the 2018 National Championship for Community Service through the Helper Helper NCAA Team Works Competition.
  • Towson had a 97% participation rate, attended 118 community service opportunities, and volunteered with 19 organizations.
  • Towson won the 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award from Susan G. Komen of Maryland.
