HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Towson University baseball team rallied from down three to defeat High Point 4-3 on Sunday afternoon, taking two of three games against the Panthers for its first series victory of the year.
After its opponent scored three in the bottom of the third, Towson (2-4) tied the game with a three-spot in the fifth, then went ahead of High Point (5-3) on a
Colin Conroy RBI single in the sixth. The Tiger bullpen held the rest of the way to secure the victory.
This win gives Towson its first weekend series victory of the year.
Key Stats:
- After Kody Reeser (1-0) entered in relief in the third inning, the Towson bullpen of Reeser, Austin Weber and Jake Pecilunas combined for 6.2 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits in that span.
- On pitching, Tyler Russo went 2.1 innings in his start, allowing three runs and striking out three. Reeser earned his first win of the year, throwing three-and-two-third of scoreless relief with one hit and two strikeouts. Austin Weber threw two innings with one hit and no runs, then Jake Pecilunas finished the game with a flawless ninth, picking up his first save of the season.
- Three Tigers earned multi-hit performances, led by Brad Powers going 3-for-5 with a run and two RBI. Matt Arceo had his first multi-hit game as a Tiger, hitting 2-for-4 with a sacrifice bunt, while Noah Cabrera finished 2-for-5, including a double and an RBI. Colin Conroy had the game-winning RBI single in the sixth, going 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored.
- For High Point, Travis Holt was 2-for-5, scoring a run. Starter Joe Johnson pitched 4.2 innings with three runs surrendered and six strikeouts with reliever Garrett Letchworth (0-1) getting the loss, having an unearned run and four strikeouts in two frames thrown.
How it Happened:
- Towson had an early threat in the top of the first as the Tigers loaded the bases with two outs off singles from Matt Arceo and Brad Powers, plus a walk by Brandon Austin, but a strikeout ended the frame without a run.
- Tyler Russo earned scoreless innings in the opening two frames, but in the third, High Point scored first off an Evan Bergman two-run double and an RBI single by Sam Zayicek for a 3-0 Panthers advantage.
- The Tigers used small ball and a big hit in the top of the fifth to get its own three-run inning. Zach Martinez led off with a walk, then Colin Conroy reached safely on a sacrifice bunt attempt. Following an Arceo sacrifice bunt to advance the runners then a pop out, Powers found the left-center gap for a two-run single, cutting the deficit to one. Brandon Austin walked, then Noah Cabrera looped a single to right, scoring a sprinting Powers to tie the game at three.
- Following a scoreless inning from Kody Reeser, Towson earned its first lead in the sixth. Burke Camper reached on an error and took second on a Martinez sacrifice bunt. Colin Conroy drilled a line drive past the diving second baseman for a base hit, scoring Camper. Towson led 4-3.
- Reeser and Austin Weber held down High Point from the sixth to the eighth, keeping the Panthers to one baserunner combined in the seventh and eighth. Jake Pecilunas entered in the ninth and went through the order 1-2-3 to finish the game, giving Towson the 4-3 victory.

- Brad Powers hit safely in all three games of the series, finishing 5-for-13 (.385) on the weekend.
- Kody Reeser picks up his third career victory while Jake Pecilunas notched his second career save.
- Towson wins its first weekend series since taking two of three from Delaware from April 20-21, 2019. It is the first weekend road series win since April 12-14, 2019 when the Tigers took two of three against Hofstra, and the first weekend non-conference series victory since March 3-5, 2017, when the Black & Gold swept Wagner. Towson earns its first road non-conference series win since Feb. 24-26, 2017 when the Tigers took three of four at Cal State Northridge.
