TOWSON, Md. – Towson University standout
Javon Fields has been voted to the 2020 Preseason All-CAA Baseball Team, announced by the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) on Wednesday morning.
Fields is the first Towson representative on the Preseason All-CAA Baseball Team, not counting honorable mention selections, since shortstop
Richie Palacios in 2017.
Last season, the Bear, Delaware native earned a place on the league's All-Rookie Team. He served as Towson's starting centerfielder in 2019, leading the team in batting average at .272, hits with 55, runs with 33, triples with five and stolen bases with 15, adding 10 doubles and a .988 fielding percentage. Fields had 17 multi-hit performances during his freshman campaign.
The Preseason All-CAA Baseball Team, and the preseason predicted order of finish, is voted on by the league's head coaches.
In the predicted order of finish, Towson tied for eighth with Hofstra. Reigning CAA Tournament champion UNCW is predicted to finish first with seven first-place votes and 63 points, followed by Northeastern with the other two first-place votes. Charleston and Elon tied for third, followed by William & Mary, James Madison, Delaware, Towson and Hofstra. In addition, Northeastern's Ian Fair was voted the CAA Preseason Player of the Year.
First pitch for Towson baseball is set for 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14
th in Norfolk, Virginia as the Tigers take on Old Dominion for a three-game series.
