Women's Hoops Falls at James Madison Sunday

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Sunday afternoon the Towson University women's basketball team took on James Madison on the road, in the last game of this rivalry to be played at the Convocation Center in Harrisonburg.
 
Towson left with a loss of 81-39. The Tigers move to 10-11 on the season and 5-5 in conference play.
 
Led by Nukiya Mayo with 13 points and eight rebounds, Kionna Jeter also posted eight boards and had eight points.
 
How it Happened
  • James Madison rolled out to an 8-0 lead in the first three minutes, forcing a Towson timeout with 7:23 to go in the first quarter.
  • With five minutes to go in the period the Tigers still had not made a basket. When Nukiya Mayo went to the line with 4:22 to go she got the road team on the board with two free throws.
  • After another pair of free throws the Towson defense came out strong holding the Dukes to a two minute, 45 second scoring drought and cutting the lead to 10. At the end of the first JMU led 21-9.
  • At the media timeout of the second quarter the Tigers trailed by 20, down 36-16 with a team-high seven points from Mayo.
  • Shooting woes plagued the Black and Goldin the first half, trailing 46-19 at halftime with a 5-of-34 field goal mark.
  • A third quarter with 12 points from the road team would seal the win for James Madison.
Beyond the Box
  • Towson saw bright spots today with records set from Nukiya Mayo. The senior reached seventh place in both all-time scoring and all-time rebounds with her career marks.
  • Olivia Finckel also saw her first ever collegiate basketball minutes as she appeared in the third and fourth quarters.
